![]() ![]() ![]() | Dutch Springs PA - June 9th, 10th? This thread isn't for me but for a friend who will be visiting PA in June and would like to dive while she's there. She doesn't know any divers out on the east coast so she is looking to meet one or two. She is not a rebreather diver but she does dive with me out here in Hawaii in doubles while I dive my Inspo. She has terrific air consumption and is a good diver, she should be starting tech training this summer. Now here is the bad part, she has never dove anything colder than 72deg. Yes I know she's in for a rude awakening but she is also heading to dive with the Kiwi's after her trip home to PA so she wants to see what this cold water diving is all about. Is anyone interested in diving with her over the 9th and 10th? Please PM me if you are interested in contacting her about diving. She was hoping to make 3-4 dives a day while she was there, but you might be able to talk her into fewer dives but longer run times if she can find a set of doubles. Aloha.

![]() ![]() | Re: Dutch Springs PA - June 9th, 10th? Surface coastal water temps near shore here in the Mid Atlantic region are still only in the mid 50'sF, Bottom temps can range from upper 30's to upper 40's. Does she have a drysuit? I have no idea what temps are at the quarry's!!!!

Dutch Springs is not the only game in the area and not necessarily the best. Does she have any experience with a Dry Suit or will we be confined to 7mm Farmer John run times? Will she have her own transportation? I live and dive in the area so can help direct her. John |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Dutch Springs PA - June 9th, 10th? She's going to be stuck to wetsuit times, I've been spoiled too long out here in Aloha Land and forgot about that drawback of cold water, although I do keep thinking about shipping out my drysuit for winter diving. She does have some experience in low vis done on a few dives out here. She will be staying in Shamokin and will have a car. If you know anyone in the area she says she would really like to dive the mile. Any help would be appreciated in finding her a way to get wet.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Dutch Springs PA - June 9th, 10th? Dutch Springs would be the closest Quarry (that I am familiar with) to where she is staying that is normally open on Monday or Tuesday. Unfortunately, I am flying out on a trip on the 10th so diving on the 9th is out for me. If I was not I could provide her with equipment and we could dive in Dutch or another quarry closer to my location. Looking for someone to dive on a Monday or Tuesday can be tough as on the mainland most people work on these days. ![]() She can expect Quarry water temp profiles about as follows: 0-25ft low 60's 25-60ft mid 50's 60ft plus low 40's 7mm full farmer john wetsuit, hood and gloves will be needed. And dive time for her with warm blood would probably be around 30-45 minutes before she was feeling too cold to be comfortable. Of course the initial rush of cold water might be of concern if she has never done any diving in these temps. Someone that frequents Dutch Springs might be able to provide more information on equipment availability in the area. I think that the Dutch Springs website has a section to request a buddy (they require it). Not fully knowing her schedule she might also want to check into driving up the the USA side of the St Lawrence and diving. Its a long drive but the logistics for a buddy and equipment might be easier and the diving would be better. John Last edited by jkaterenchuk : 25th May 2008 at 13:23. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Dutch Springs PA - June 9th, 10th? She's pretty hard core and she did grow up in the NE so I'm not too concerned about her and cold water. She knows her limits and is a very responsible diver. Thanks for the help, if anyone else would like a dive buddy for the 9th/10th let me know so you guys can get in touch. Thanks,
