Sorb shelf life????

Ok I’m pretty new to rebreathers and “The book says not to use old sorb” so I just bought my first Keg of Molecular Sofnolime and the Date on the Keg is 17 May 05.
So how old is old and should I return this 3 year old Keg?

I think important is the expire date.

My personal opinion is that it will keep longer than I will. The chemistry is too simple to go off although it might be a bit slow to fire up if you let it dry out.

Assuming 17 May 05 is the expiry date, rather than the manufacturing date, he'd better get cracking then

Thanks for the info though - very useful, even though I hope I use mine long before the expiry date...

Cheers,

Re: Sorb shelf life????

I could be off on this, but everytime I heard/read that, I assumed they meant USED sorb, or at least partially used, that's been sitting around for a while.

Re: Sorb shelf life????

The Canadian military was faced with a shortage a year or so ago so they tested some sorb that was near to expiry date to see if it would be safe. They found expired sofnolime tested as well and possibly even better than new so they extended the life for another year. I read the report somewhere, probably on this site.
