| Re: Cousteau Ocean Adventures Rebreather LOL... Watched an early black 'n white Cousteau film recently, the one where they found the wreck of the Thistlegorm in the Red Sea. Great to watch them smash the coral off the bell!!! I think you'll find they scraped the coral from the bell, in-situ, with a dive knife Other delights were dynamiting the lagoon to count fish (the dying pufa fish is very sad) & leaping off a scooter to ride on the back of a turtle ![]() How times change.... , agree for the dynamiting though, very bad as was their bludgeoning a number of Oceanic Whitetips to death for having the cheek to feast from the carcass of a whale that the Calypso had run over and killed.....Still, was the highlight of the 1970s for me and got me interested in diving, so it wasn't all that bad.................. Cheers, Dave Cooper.

Great to watch them smash the coral off the bell!!! There's a great section in The Living Sea where he describes how an incredibly rare coral is really hard to saw through Other delights were dynamiting the lagoon to count fish (the dying pufa fish is very sad) & leaping off a scooter to ride on the back of a turtle ![]() How times change.... Ironically, I was flicking through one of his books from the 70's in a second hand bookshop the other day which carried a big warning that our seas would be fished out by 1980. We managed a couple of extra decades.Like Dave says, I'm another that got into diving through watching him as a kid so it served a purpose. He was a man of his era. Compared to what the Victorians did he was a Guardian reading leftie tree hugger.

| Re: Cousteau Ocean Adventures Rebreather For a real eye opener, reread his original The Silent World (his first major book). I especially enjoyed (?) the part in chapter 12 about attempting to film shark behavior by towing whale behind their boat they'd wounded first with a harpoon and then w/ hollow point bullets (to increase the blood flow).
