When I took it all apart there was grit in trumpet orifice that had clogged it completely. Some work with compressed air and a teeny tiny needle did the job of cleaning it and the solenoid has performed well since then (almost 3 months ago) .Tryed to track the entry point of the grit and got no-where. The filter at the head was clean and I only use medical grade O2... oh well just another step in the regular maintenance schedule .Later Nick |

A solenoid closed failure would be in my mind happening with good batteries but the solenoid decides to take a crap. I did have a number of solenoid problems on a number of different units due to crapping out batteries during in the drink time even when they where good prior and at the beginning of the dive, but flying the unit manually did not present a problem as the rest of electronics as of Po2 display keep working. Only real time I personally had a problem with a solenoid was on a Cis Lunar MK5P. Funny thing there was I recognized it on suiting up and putting the unit on as I was jumping a bit to settle the unit on my back and body the solenoid fired uncontrolled when jumping ... and I aborted the dive pre wet. I have seen some solenoid stuck problems either in open or closed position, including solder or cable contacts that corroded and where rotting of the solenoid. greetings Matt |

| Multi-Circuit Meg Monkey! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Solenoid Stuck Open?????? the voltage drop-off by the time you get to 6.5v can drop to a level that it can't run the solenoid within one dive - and it does that without tripping the low-voltage warning. . Yeah that was why I considered it a failure in my rig rather than myself as the voltage was still above the Low Warning indiciator. Still failed closed is preferable for me rather than open in terms of solution as I fly manually. Nevertheless still a failure. Hasn't happend since though and I change my batteries more often. Seb

Well for a Meg diver anyway. I know the Inspos and Evos can have the secondary controller take over the firing of the solenoid. I guess it depends on the point of view the poll was coming from, but with all possible points of view potentially to consider, I prefer to take the one that applies to all, as in how to solve it. Cheers Seb

I have no way of know weather it was actually stuck or not... but a sobering reminder in any case.
