| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Anyone carry insurance on their units? I'm taking delivery of my Evo in May and look forward to traveling all around with it. I'm just curious, does anyone carry insurance on their RBs, it would be awful to get to a destination only to find that the rebreather got 'misplaced' and the airline will only cover a couple hundred dollars.

I cannot imagine passing a machine to which I trust my life to an airline baggage handler. Find yourself a bag that will contain your rebreather, your laptop and one paperback. First stop on entering the airport is finding a locker: put your 'breather in there. Check in your main baggage. Retrieve your rebreather. Board the plane. Try not to grunt too much when lifting your 'breather into the overhead bin. Practice the "butter wouldn't melt in my mouth look" and hold in reserve the "righteous indignation" look. With the speed of modern jet travel you get breakfast in London, supper in the Seychelles, baggage in Mombassa. People who check in their 'breathers risk missing the first few days of diving while their baggage handlers work out where they sent your valuables. Last week was a case in point. But it didn't happen to me. |

I guess I'll have to wait and see how compressed I could pack the unit Got any pics of how you're packing?

I've just insured all my gear with DEPP (based in the US, covers worldwide): http://www.awryinc.com/index.html I don't have a rebreather yet but anything over $5000 US, you just add an extra premium. It's one of the very few insurance companies that cover flooding. For more info: http://www.diveoz.com.au/discussion_forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17209&SearchTerms=camera,insura nce |
