Mini Backup Rebreather

Hi Guys,

I have been looking for what is called "Bail Out Rebreather" as the idea of taking one extra small unit to bail out on sounds much better than taking a bunch of Deco tanks for deep diving. I'm just wondering if anyone has more information about what's available in the market which is professionally done. I know that the US Navy uses mini rebreathers for backup in their subs but I'm trying to find a commercial version. I also tried looking into old posts but couldn't find anything practical. If you have any information about that then I would appreciate if you let me know.

Best Regards. Wael

Re: Mini Backup Rebreather

Talk to Dr Mike.

He has to be one of the formost authorities on bail out CCR on here. (unless others are keeping their heads down )

My 2p is unless your divinge very deep (beyound 30mins at 80m ) or very far into a cave, its more hassel than its worth.

Re: Mini Backup Rebreather

Nothing commercially available afaIk. Check the threads for a Sport Kiss used as a BOB, with scrubber pushed down into the unit and hoses/BOV stuffed on top. Or build one, that what most people who use them are doing. Either a dual/twin of whatever unit they use (Twinspiration, Dual Meg etc) or convert a small O2 unit for mixed gas use like Dave Sutton'sMinimum Rebreather.

Re: Mini Backup Rebreather

Hi,

Thanks guys for the info. I will try to contact both DR. Mike and Dave to discuss further details. I really find Dave's mini unit interesting.
