DEMA Party

Here is a copy of email from Tom Rose.....

I must say Tom did a great job of organising this - and I admit being one of the last three or four people there even being jet lagged

***********************************
Hi Guys,

From my view the rebreather was a rousing success......

We held it a a very modest hotel with a big heart about 5 minutes walk
from the Convention Center. It was the Villa Roma on Convention
Drive...With nothing to gain for themselves they allowed us to use the
area beside the pool...no charge....One suggestion from a number of
people.....more of us stay there..(I think they want a short walk to bed
after the beer)..It is modest older hotel...rooms are clean....beds
comfortable....air conditioners are new, quiet, and work..very nice
staff....tv worked.....phones didn't.....a Dennys just around the
corner......and it is reasonably priced...

After Ron and I finally tracked each other down and got together..(.both
of us were trying to get it going and make something good happen)....we
evaluated our options and decided to go to the Villa Roma...we had the
place to ourselves..

------------------------------ -------------------------------

The people who chipped in to help are almost to numerous to name but
here are some who jumped in to make it happen.

Dr. Bob and his sidekick Eric the Viking....Logistics (beer runs and
helping get the word out)

Ron Micjan for helping organize things and making the first goodie run
and holding down the fort till Eric and I got there with the first
beer and wine run...

-------------------------------------

All of the rebreather and associated industry booth people who got the
word out and signed up people.

The folks who helped police up the area and move the furniture loaned to
us by the motel back in.

And of course, all of the fine folks that came and contributed to the
fun and fellowship. It was great meeting with you guys and seeing some
of you in person.....

As usual Dr Bob had some interesting show and tell with Navy NEDU making
informal testing of his famous FEOR in the pool...his now famous
underwater night vision scope...(used only for spying on lobsters of
course)...and his Jack (back to the future) two hose regulator..(look
out Aqua Lung)....there are reports that later in the evening there were
going to be sneak attacks on pools in the area...but as Sgt Shultz says
"I know nothing" I wasnt there, I did not do it, I did not plan it, and
even if I did I would lie about it.....thats my story....

Of course with my usual modesty showed a few people my pure oxygen rig
to mixed gas rig 5 second conversion kit...Men swore, women
fainted...what did you expect...And more than a few learned how to make
a patent pending Infrared CO2 monitoring device. What fun....

Here is how we organized it and the final results.

A number of booths kept signup sheets, preregistered guests, and
directed them to the party....and of course showed up themselves.

We collected $5 for each person who came to the party for beer, wine,
soft drinks, and snacks. During the evening we squared up with guys who
advanced their cash to buy stuff for the party.....

Somewhere about 2 am we counted the remaing money.....we still had 123
dollars, some wine, some soft drinks, and a little beer...and half a bag
of pretzels. We gave the drinks and beer to the motel people as a little
thank you....I ate the pretzels this morning for breakfast and I have
the 123 dollars as seed money to make an early pre-party beer and snack
run for the next one to make it a little easier time wise......not
having to rush so much.

There was a down side to the party....it was just damned impossible to
meet with and talk with all of the great guys and gals at the party..Way
more than 40 people showed up.....more than one person had the same
complaint.......any suggestions....

Next year we will get the signup sheets out earlier...get the location
tied down....

See ya in Orlando or on a reef somewhere...mind those bubbles...

Respectfully submitted,

Tom Rose
Secretary and Treasurer of the DEMA Rebreather Party Club....(I wrote
the report and got the money so I elected myself)

Well, you were lit up like a christmas tree.

The party was great fun, but so many people and too little time.
When we left only Dr. Bob his FEORs and the NEDU guys were there.
