Re: How deep to you dive on air diluent?

i understand the desire of travelling to pacific reefs, i've spent months in some places, albeit in my OC days. the best often doesn't start until the 30m-40m mark. throw in WW2 planes and wrecks and well... you get the picture. the lure of the deep can be strong.

for your pacific holidays, we do have helium in the pacific, it just takes a lot more organisation and $ on your part . best shared with a group of friends -even just a few. on Rebreather and with access to a booster, you don't need to have too many Gs of either helium or O2. plan and execute dives accordingly to maximise helium benefit. i even have alternate dil bottles, air and tmx dil, if i don't really want to "waste" helium, but i've found that that's not essential, as you use so little on a dive.

if that's all too much, stick to air dil dives (shallower than you would on OC based on previous poster experiences) where you're comfortable. or use OC and leave the Rebreather behind for those dives.

personally for me 30m is a cutoff without helium these days whether OC or Rebreather. helium isn't the voodoo devil gas, nitrogen is. narcosis is not your friend, it never has been and never will be.

One of the more entertaining downsides of He I heard of was the deep air diver who was quite happy deep, then tried trimix, and without the narcosis making him euphoric discovered he was scared stiff being so deep and gave it all up!

Hi,

My answer is 33 meters.

By the way, this issue is being discussed in another thread.

Best Regards. Wael

Re: How deep to you dive on air diluent?

Ok, imagine the title has changed to:
"How deep do you dive on air diluent if Helium is not available".

I think it's well established that many folks, maybe even most, who tend toward deeper dives eventually go to He and once having made the transition prefer He pretty much for all dives if it's available. convenience seems to also be a factor.

I'm also surprised to see that some folks are such fans of He that they simply don't dive when it's not available.
