![]() | Drager Panorama FFM I have seen a couple posts about this mask. My wife and I currently own Oceanreef Neptune Space FFM for OC. I am curious if anyone has any input on using communications with the Drager. How effective is it with a mouth piece crammed in your mouth. Is it still possible to understand someone using this? Also maybe this is a dumb question but why is the mouth piece needed? I read the article here: http://www.apeks.co.uk/products/Full...ech%20Spec.pdf And it states that if used with the dolphin w/o the mouth piece it would blow the mask off your head. Is this the same with all Rebreather combined with this mask? Also how are the "P" connectors on it constructed. Would I be able to use the GSM DC transceiver unit I use with the Space FFM? It is compatible with any FFM that uses a standard DIN female connection. Thanks for any advice. |

Haven't used the R version of the Dräger, the OC version has the same kind of nasal cup as used in the AGA, Ocean Reef etc., so using comms isn't a problem. Dräger offers the OTS buddy phone for it, and OTS rigs them with any of their mike and unit combos. If you can use the GSM with any of them you can use it with the Dräger. You can find the female part of the P-port here: Dräger Panorama Nova Dive Anschluss | Online Shop | W+S Water Safety Europe GmbH | Seit 1999 The blind plug is here: Dolphin/Ray/PND Blindstopfen | Online Shop | W+S Water Safety Europe GmbH | Seit 1999 Drawings of DSV and blind plug are here: Dräger Panorama Nova Dive R Mundstück + Anschluss Zeichnung | Online Shop | W+S Water Safety Europe GmbH | Seit 1999 The P-port is very popular for adding gas or sensor holders to breathing bags, many companies manufacturing all kind of plugs for it. Here on Rebreather World Paul Raymakers (rEvo II CCR), John Routley (NarkedAt90 accesories) and Jakub Rehacek (sp?) (Golem Gear accesories) come to mind.

Easy to use, just spit out the bitepiece (you want to have it on any CCR with this FFM) and talk, then catch the bitepiece back. Kybrt, I dive the mask with contacts, but there is enough room there for small "Lennon" glasses, the seal might be good enough that it will not leak even with wire sides going to your ears. Have not tried that though. Last edited by lof : 13th December 2007 at 20:58. |

Thanks, the pics are from when I dove the NASA EVA suit at the Neutral Bouyancy Laboratory in Houston Texas. I was a safety diver for astronauts training for their space walks.I am not sure what the GSM DC connector is but OTS makes Buddy Phone for this mask that plugs into one of the side P-Ports GSM DC is the comm unit that is used in the Ocean Reef Neptune Space FFM. It claims it is usable with any FFM with a standard female DIN connection. From the looks of the drawings posted by Caveseeker7 it doesnt look like it has the threads. I will post a pic in a moment of the comm unit.Golem Gear, Inc. - Buddy Phone for FFM Very compact solution - just a P-port with "push to talk" button and an Earpiece. Pip, most likely the connectors for the comms would come from the comm manufacturer. As I mentioned, OTS has a P-plug for their comms, the Buddy Phone as well as the larger units (2010 etc). The Buddy Phone looks like the GSM, but is hardwired. The 2010 has mikes and speakers separately from the electronics, which can be mounted anywhere. Ocean Reef should know if the GSM can be used with the Dräger. If you get no reply try Ocean Technology Systems if their mike/button plug will work with your GSM, or if they know of a Dräger/GSM setup. OTS used to make comms for the Ocean Reef mask, and they do make them for most other FFMs, so I'm quite sure they'll know. John Hott is good person to contact, info on their website.

Thanks for the info Stefan. Glad it's not a big enough difference in loop volume to need extra weight. I keep looking for drawbacks to the Panorama, but there really don't seem to be any, other than a little extra staring from the OCs. As the announcer on Ren and Stimpy says, "Tune in for more thrilling headgear!"... |
