Modifying a Dolphin for use <50 metres

My wife is considering buying a Dolphin as she prefers the simplicity of operation compared to her CCR. The majority of her planned diving is in 40 metres or less but we do have regular access to an area with many wrecks in the 48 metre range.

I note from Draegers sales blurb that the standard unit is good for 40 metes based on a 32% mix @ 1.6. In an ideal world she would choose to dive a 26% mix and limit her depth to 50 metres.

Any advice that can be offered for the suitability of the Dolphin for this application and, the neccessary modifications would be gratefully received.

I am not sure about the scrubber (it is a small one), but keep in mind the gas requirements. The gas needed to keep the PpO2 at an acceptable level at 50 meters would have a FO@ which is too low for the shallower parts of the dive. There are undoubtedly possibilities to modify the unit, f.e. by using a gass switch. However, in my view, you are then loosing the simplicity which is the reason you are contemplating a Dolphin.

Rgs,
Niels

This is a good article

also try reading through the semi closed forum for more information.
As for the above post about the small scrubber you can get the extend air scrubber. The Dolphin cartridge is the same as the Optima
