![]() ![]() | SCR or CCR? I eventually want/will be a CCR diver, will it be beneficial to me to become SCR trained first and then move to CCR? Or should I just skip SCR and go straight to CCR? |

![]() | Skip it unless there is a financial reason to go SCR. You really don't learn anything that isn't better learned by going straight to CCR. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hello E-man, I second that. I dove SCR for a couple of years, but only because there were not very many choices for CCR at that early date. Go straight to CCR, they are both about the same amount of trouble but you will get more out of CCR and you will spend less money than if you train on and buy 2 units.-Andy |

| Go Nude Or Go Home Current Rebreather/s: | Don't even bother with SCR its a waste of $$$ you can spend on your CCR. I dove a SCR dolphin for 12 months, almost put me off Rebreathers for life. Cheers Chris

If it wasn't that I could convert them to mCCR, I would have still passed them up. I'm sure some one, somewhere, has a logical reason for using an SCR breather. They're keeping that secret very much to themselves. ![]() Darlene |

They're keeping that secret very much to themselves. In some applications, SCR is still the preferred option for the people using them.![]() For example, take a look at the Rebreather-80 and the type of diving that Reinhard Buchaly + Michael Waldbrenner are doing (http://www.ekpp.de/). Or the WKPP except I have not been up to date with what they are doing the last few years. Having dived the original Halcyon "fridge" for a few years, I understand and appreciate the concept intimately. However, the logistics of using the "fridge" in OW was not optimum so it didn't get too popular. But Reinhard re-packaged the unit into the smaller and more compact Rebreather-80 unit, and completely revamped its popularity within the DIR circle. Having dived the EDO-04 (Rebreather-80 clone) and converted it into CCR, I also know the unit quite well and like how it works. If I have more $ and time, I would have kept the unit to do more conversion to it to allow switching between SCR and CCR mode more quickly. However, I have been spoiled for too long with the comfort of CCR (smaller, lighter, less gas blending, etc) and fit into the stereo-type CCR-diver profile (old, unfit, lazy ) plus don't do the "exploration" type of dives, I will stick with my CCR units.

The Dolphin SCR course is a good intro into diving rebreathers and you will soon find out whether you want to pull down and clean a Rebreather unit every time you go diving. The exposure for someone used to throwing a couple of regs on twins and diving off the computer is no comparison to diving CCR. I sat down after reading my TDI KISS manual and thought about how many ways my CCR could kill me...... and then I started thinking about the diving the unit on trimix Good luck with your choice but I dived the Dolphin and yes it sucks puss though I never flooded it and I did enjoy diving it over Open circuit. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Depends where you see your diving going. If it's single tank, no deco stuff then the Dolphin is an ideal replacement but you really need to ask yourself what's the point, it is loads more hassle for not much benefit. If it's twins/deco diving then go CCR. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on SCR. |
