Are all CCR users ?

Follwing the other thread and some Pms from mnf I recieved I thought it would be fun to see the other side of the coin

How about some feedback from manufacturers about the crap that users have tried to get away with. Abused equipment, bodged repairs, unreasonable demands etc. Im sure it would be entertaining

In my company we have a saying

"make something idiot proof and they just go and invent a better quality of idiot"

Not rebreathers but...

One of my company's products is a toy to measure the speed of an airgun pellet.

You would expect that the users would know that putting something near the pointy end of a gun and pulling the trigger requires a modicum of care.

We repair so many shot ones every week that it is a standard charge on the price list.

Re: Are all CCR users ?

There are people on this list that can be relied on for a chuckle

Never mind the "dog ate my loop and can you cover it under warrantee" stories. There must be many a story from manufacturers and retailers about people like me who refuse to dive anything standard out of the box and want to modify kit completely before it gets wet (prerequisite on one particular unit in my opinion). There must be a pile of wonderful "can I add a bale out snorkle to my BOV" stories out there as well that are good for a chuckle.

The problem however is that the common sence required in the thread above isn't so common.

Customers

From the files of Industrial engineering…

1. Oh, you mean like when one of our customers tried to pickup a piece of equipment we made. He did not rig the forklift correctly to lift the equipment off the flatbed trailer and dropped it off the trailer.
You should have seen the pictures 50k later!

2. Do not meet your customer at a restaurant and let him hand you a sample that looks like drugs!
While having lunch with a client he handed me a large bag of a white powdery substance. Neither of us realized that two Texas State Troopers had seen him hand me the bag and thought it was something else.
Raw white cut fiberglass may look like cocaine…!
That was a long day…

Re: Are all CCR users ?

I build this big customised high pressure waterjet cutting system for a customer. Its HUGE standing 3m x 5m x 2m running at 3000bar off two diesel engine driven trailer pumps. I demo it to him by cutting through 12 inches of Titanium. There was so much raw power in this thing you could boil an egg in the water catchment tank.

After cutting the customer reaches forward to feel "is the jet cold?"

I lunge at him to stop him he says "oh - would it have cut me?"

I said "not if your hand is harder than titanium no"

reminds me of the time I was pulled over for speeding in the UK.

At the time I was working for the Royal Military College of Science doing research into arms disposal techniques for the Military.

I was racing my Porsche 944 down these windy country lanes when I got stopped. The policeman who pulled me over asked me to open the tailgate of the car. When I did, in the back he could see a whole bunch of 35mm artillery shells sat in their polystyrene trays lol. They were all duds for testing - but he wasn't to know that

Took some explaining. Almost as much as when I failed the random explosives swab test at JFK Occupational hazard for that line of work

Off topic, but worth a laugh:

Friend in CA had his car stolen, the cops spotted it next night, chased the thief down and caught him. When taking inventory the cops came across several thick albums full of pictures of weapons, mostly machine guns, machine pistols, rocket launchers and grenade throwers. Got all excited about hhaving caught a major illegal arms dealer, probably selling weapons to drug dealers and terorists. The idiot who took stole the car had no clue. All caught on tape for "Real Stories Of The Highway Patrol".

Needless to say the poor sod spent a very long night in interogation.

The car's owner is in the movie prop business.

Now back to our regular scheduled program ...
