![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: 15.5 or Borris??????????? IMHO the two best features of the MK15 series rebreather - the cell placement and the spheres (which do make maintenance a problem) are not in the Boris. I also like the fact that that after going through the scrubber the gas passes over the outside of the dome which is cold thus causing condensate and thereby removing water vapour. Never having seen a boris in the flesh I can't comment on all its features but I am tempted to agree with Dave - that they can all be fitted a a MK15 after market. I don't know why somebody doesn't just copy a MK15.x???? Graham |

Early on there was an issue between a mis-match of the trimix pin and the serial pin, which lost me one dive.Since then no problems whatsoever. I consider the electronics package on the Ouroboros to be first class. I have had mine since October 2005. Cheers, Dave Cooper.

I live on the other side of the world and CCR service has been AWESOME!!I had the trimix pin problem and a resetting issue and Kevin’s team worked endlessly to resolve it, At no cost to me. When I purchased the kit I knew there were going to be issues… that’s something you have to accept on any brand new kit. When I purchased my Boris I was thinking of buying a Mark 15 but I didn’t want to be in bed with some after market electronics guy. I’ve been down that road before and it wasn’t pleasant. My Boris has been running perfect and I would say all glitches in the electronics are worked out. CCR has made upgrades to the kit and has given them to me at no charge. CCR is one of the best if not the best company I’ve ever dealt with in the rebreather industry. I’m not a shop owner or a sales man….so these words come from my personal dealings with the company. The Mark 15 is a kick ass rebreather. But if you upgrade to 2007 electronics from a outside guy your at their mercy if something goes down. You better pray he can get your kit fixed and sent back to you ASAP. I know the Boris isn’t cheap but the electronics has features that no other kit has. ![]() Listen to Dave Cooper and Jerome. Jerome and Mike Gadd have both kits and choose to dive their Boris to MONSTROUS depths. Don't you think there's a reason they dive the Boris over a Mark 15. If you want a back mounted counter lung rebreather. Buy a Boris you won’t regret it! Cheers Frankie Last edited by Frankie Pellegrino : 31st October 2007 at 00:59. |

Dave your right, 50 years with the MK series I can believe although I am currently only half way through. Biomarine/Rexnord and a 15.5. For interest just did a search on the "ACE profile" enclosed is all I can find, I had one years ago, I remember getting only three months. Enclosed from thread in 1995: Does anyone out the still own an ACE Profile dive computer? If so I would be interested to hear of your experiences with it. I could start a user group if there is enough of you.+++For those who don't know of this computer, it is a variable Nitrox one with tank pressure monitoring, PC interface and datalogging capabilities. Its design was generic, with a dot matrix character display, and lots ofI/O capability. Its potential was enormous. Unfortunately, due to under-funded production methods, reliability was crap, and I didn't hear of anyone who had a fully working model. It was manufactured by a company called Quatek (Directors Kevin Gurr and Nick Bushell) who went bust in 1992. Kevin once told me that about 500 were sold. It was a great shame that a bigger company didn't buy the rights and make a go of it. When it came out in 1989 it was at least 5 years ahead of its time.As far as I'm concerned, thats the last time I invest in cutting edge technology! I have also heard of Prism electronics on a 15.5 That would be the SM1600, not sure if there's any around, haven't seen one in a long while. I think you can still get a Hammer Head for the MK15.5, but then the simplicity factor would be gone... |

Theres one in my gear room at home ![]() Best electronics ever put in a MK15.5 imho (ie the only electronics that ever actually worked )My buddy uses Colkans electronics in his MK15.5 which seam to work fine As for the boris v mk15.5 debate I still have my MK15.5 - what does that tell you? Both are very good units for big dives. I like them both equally. Boris has good electronics and MK15.5 is more robust/simpler Boris is a tad bigger and heavier than mk15.5 but hey I just dug my way into (and out of when the bank fell in behind me) upstream Cow springs N. florida wearing Boris so size isnt everything :-) Fins make good shovels ![]()
