Re: How do you sling your tanks and why?

I dive two stages left (an Ali 80 and a Ali 7). At first I found it bulky, but after a few dives I got used to it. The trick is to move the air in the wing so it's slightly lopsided.

I don't think you can truly judge a type of kit configuration until you've done a dozen dives with it.

I'm now thinking about a third stage, and wondering where to put that. I'm wavering between nose-clipping it (I worry about just one clip) and a leash (more faff). Although Dave T came up with a good idea (use two 7s on the KISS, one dedicated bailout, one dil; a small bottle for O2; and then two side slungs).

I dive with an OC diver, and he has to bring multiple stages in order to do same BT. So it is not unusual for him to have at least 3 stages on the deep dive or one with extended BT.

He uses a leash on the left hip to facilitate moving the tanks around easier, but IMHO, not really necessary.

Nose-clipping is a very common technique. Unless your stage clip is not secured, just take your time clip/unclip and you won't lose anything.

I also sling all bottles on my left side, have a swagelock QC to plug my bottom mix into a second stage thats bungeed around my neck and have no prob with 3 bottles on one side. I am part "Dillo as one of my bottles is sidemounted and the others are nose clipped.

I have pics and will post soon of the mods I have made to Phi's travelframe with a new bottom that replaces Jacobs Armadillo.

Having the right side free is a big plus with big video/photo systems and a must for scootering for me when filming/shooting every dive.

Sounds like a good rig -where do you get the carbon-tanks, and are they about the same as an alu-bottle weight-wise in-water?

Also, would be cool to see pictures of the different ways people do this...

jon o
i bought the carbon tanks from my trimix instructor Home .the carbon tank is ultralight.full with 300 bar oxygen and the tank is pretty heavy.for deep fundives my problem is alltimes the 50/20 .at the end of the day, 2 ali with a lot helium and 1 cabon 300bar oxygen are in balance under water.only problem, carbon tanks are sensitively.i protect my tank with a tire hose from a car.

Re: How do you sling your tanks and why?

I was slinging my tanks on the left and right before I went CC -- I'm only really diving with my BO now so always on the left. Does anyone else ride their stage/BO sidemount? Amazing difference in the water -- almost like its not even there.

Re: How do you sling your tanks and why?

Yes, I'm sidemount as well. Bottom mix plumbed into my BOV on the left, hot mix on the right and I either leash my intermediate on the left or nose clip it.

I find that with having the OTS CLs, its just too busy in front to have everything mounted on the left in the conventional way. Also, when using the scooter the amount of drag produced with two or more bottles on the left cause me to go a little dog legged. But to be fair, I only did this once so I'm not really giving it a chance. I'll probably give it a go again.

Re: How do you sling your tanks and why?

I am fairly new to CC diving but always carry a 7L steel on my left hand side, I have removed a 1.5kg weight on my left to prevent me from rotating. I will be twin slinging tomorrow and intend to have 50% on my right and 21% on my left.
I used this method on OC with no concerns so feel it's the way to go on CC.

I am loving the pictures you guys are posting, talk about amazing blue water!!! More pictures please!!!

John
