| PreNarked ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Where to put the compass? I know there must be a simple solution...what have I overlooked? I wear my VR3 on my right arm and my Meg primary display on my left. I have been using a SUUNTO SK7 compass. I found that this setup makes the compass absolutely worthless. While this may be quite obvious to most, I have discovered that the error introduced by wearing the compass on either arm, on either side of each device produces unreliable compass readings. What to do? What do others do? A different compass? I really do not want to wear the primary and the VR3 on the left side together and the compass on the right. I like to be able to look at the VR3 and use my left arm/hand interdependently for buoyancy adjustments, especially on ascent.

Hi Justin, Get a compass holder from Diving Nik Naks see here: Mounting for Suunto SK7, Mountings for timers and computers at divingniknaks 0121 707 5783. Frog, Dirzone, Agir Brokk Scuba Diving Gear and put it on a retractor which can be clipped to your harness and stowed under one of the counterlungs. Cheers, Dave Cooper.

Justin, I run the SK7 in the DSS Bungee mount and have one bungee at my wrist the other is over the 2nd and 3rd fingers. That puts it on the back of my hand. It does not intefere with other items above the wrist. I run my light in my right hand and compass on left. If you put light on left then put compass on right. Another option is to put the SK7 on the SK7 retractor mount and use it that way. Though its not very "techie". Cheers

I dive an Evo, so the straps are a little different, but I took the stock SK7 in the factory mount, and I removed the rubber strap. Then I just threaded it on the wrist strap for the rebreather controller, as if that were the stock compass strap... It means I have to twist my wrist to use it, but it's not a big deal, and they both sit cleanly on my left arm. It's also not going to go anywhere.I tried to combine it with the VR3 on my right arm, until I realized the VR3 switches were magnetic... Yeah, that wasn't so bright ![]() |

![]() | Re: Where to put the compass? Hi, Remove the original plastic strap and replace with 'knicker elastic' (available from most super markets – in black is best ) this does require the use of a needle and thread… Then you are able to move the compass up or down your arm whilst diving. I tend to hold the compass whilst using it and slip it back up my arm when it's not in use... - hope that makes sense... |

I also think it will be far enough away from the other magnetic fields to work properly. I'll let you know how it goes.
