Diving after DEMA

Anyone intrested in diving after Dema - I was thinking about doing a charter to dive the Oriskney (private charter if there would be enough intrest) OR if anyone has any ideas or places to go that there would not be extended travel time

I would be willing to get a charter set up here in South Florida... or even the upper Keys

and we have plenty of Rebreather World members locally that even if they don't go to DEMA they would still be able to dive.

Patti-

Just so you know, in order to dive the Oriskany you are looking at about 9 hours drive time from Orlando, so not exactly "close by". South Florida would be much closer.

Hi Heather
I have been wanting to do the Oriskany since last year. I took my dive gear to DEMA last year because Tim Baum had a boat and we were going to make that long trip to dive on the Oriskany. Bad weather so never did make it. Speaking of that is there a better time of year to dive on the Oriskany?

Just wanted to make sure you knew how far it is (lots of people are amazed to find out that we are stuck way up here next to Alabama).

Our weather is much more stable mid-April through mid- October. Towards the middle of October we begin to have lots of fronts coming in, and though the air and water temps are still warm, it can be very windy. For the absolute best bet on weather, June, July and August (barring tropical systems) are the best.

I have 2 great 6 pack captains up here. Also, anyone planning to come up here en masse to do the O. needs to be aware that it is sort of "no man's land" for Rebreather's. I've helped a couple of traveling RB divers out with sorb, bottles and bailout bottles, as none of the shops up here stock or rent those items. We do have several shops that have mix and O2.

Re: Diving after DEMA

Thanks for the info, I will probably make a seperate trip for the Oriskany rather than driving that 8-9hr trip for one day of diving. Hope to see you at Dema again.

Re: Diving after DEMA

Some diving after DEMA sounds like a plan and I would be interested in some relaxing stuff maybe even have a look at some caves Horst.

I think gear may be a problem for us European visitors unless we pallet ship all our kit before hand??

Or even hire some O/C gear...

Re: Diving after DEMA

I will likely have a group diving out of Pompano Beach with South Florida Diving Headquarters. We will be there atleast Monday through Friday after Dema diving the usual stuff down to and including the Hydro Atlantic and the RBJ. Most of the group will be CCR with some doing advanced training. Trimix, O2, and kitty litter will be available.
