Hot Sofnolime

Hi all, I'm just after some advice here. I left my newly packed scrubber in the conservatory the other day. When I came home the temperature was 45 degrees - ooops . Does anyone know what, if anything this sort of heat will do to the sofnolime. Should I dump it?
Regards,
Charlie

Re: Hot Sofnolime

Only 45 deg ? That's a cool day in the Summer here...

Depending on how long you left it in that temp, but we go out diving on the boat during the Summer months with the units sitting out of the shade for hours in that temperature without problem.

Re: Hot Sofnolime

It´s not the temperature I would be afraid off, but if the lime was sealed of from the air, if the scrubber was opened and the temperature made it dry out. Then I would be a bit careful how to handle the situation. If I suspect that my lime have dried out because of heat/unsealed I pore some water on the lime to get the moisture back in it (preferably the night before at lest).

My experience is that dry lime has a much harder time to start absorbing/reacting with the CO2.

Hi all,

How long time do you keep your lime after it is put into the scrubber and protect in order that it don't get dry ? For example you let the scrubber in the canister closed.

Thank's

Re: Hot Sofnolime

I have reused my KISS after about 2 month, without chaning the lime. On a shalower dive (30m), and diden´t have any issues.

I haven't gone 2 months, but up to 4-5 weeks was normal when I had too many units at one time. No issues on 70-90m dives...

Re: Hot Sofnolime

If I tell you that you'll need some 800-900 degrees to make Calcium Oxide again would that be comforting?

Seriously the temperature makes the reaction faster if there is one. If the keg is well closed then that is almost sufficient to keep the CO2 out and a bit of water in.
The only thing I would worry about is long exposure to direct sunlight. The PE or PP (whatever the keg is made of) might age thus reducing efficiency.
(we're not talking hours here though)

Re: Hot Sofnolime

Cheers for all your input guys. When you start off down the CCR road, there's no taking anything for granted as with OC. It has put my mind to rest and I'll now enjoy my diving on Sunday as a result.
