Re: How to make a digital ppo2 display?

Hi DrMike,

Here are some basics for making a Digital Panel Meter (DPM) based PPO2 meter.
Construction, Operation, and Maintenance of an O2 Meter

Also, here is a tip: Almost all DPM's use the same resistor numbering. So R3 in one brand DPM has the same function as R3 in DPM from another manufacturer. Another tip, isolate each O2 sensor, DPM and battery in separate housings, so one failure does not bring down all three PO2 readings. Finally don't forget to put in load resistor for each O2 cell (10Kohm for R22D and 100Kohm for K1D).

Cheers.
-Marek

Hi Mike,

I've made a couple of displays using pcb's from www.ppo2.com
Instructions are on the website. They work well.

Cheers,
Paul

why bother if you can have them off the shelf ??

don't forget, unless it is an intelligent processor based design, you have to open the box to calibrate!!

Re: How to make a digital ppo2 display?

Calibration is a PITA if you have to open it up. Ask Brent/Divetheworld for his thoughts. Homebuild where you DO have to open it up is very simple, as mentioned above. However, if you know someone who can sort you with a PIC programmer, there are LOADS of examples on here where you could get a pic-based PO2 meter array set up - including the code.

Or take the lazy but sensible way out and buy one of Paul's rEvoDreams!

Hi Paul

Im pricing up both options. If I can get gauranteed supply off the shelf at reasonable prices then Id naturally rather go that way. - hint hint

not if you just have thru wall adjusters (o-ring sealed) ala Boris secondary - piece of cake.

Cheers [raises pint of G&T]

Re: How to make a digital ppo2 display?

It's pretty simple stuff, it's just a posh voltmeter. I think Mark Munro's design is the best as the meter needs no hacking, it's a straight wiring job. The Datel meters are superb as well, much more resilient than cheap generic panel meters like the DPM128 in the El Cheapo design. They are reasonably water tolerant as well as they are fairly well sealed. They fit nicely into a horse-cock type housing.

Cheers,

Stuart

Re: How to make a digital ppo2 display?

If you want the displays only then Dave Mager will sort you some very nice compact ones out for about 50 GBP each, which when you add up all the component costs is ridiculously cheap. PM me for his details if you are interested.

They are the same displays as used on Dr Duncan's D5 sidemount breather, the details of which can be found at sump4.com/home

Mike - I'll show you them when you visit. I may have some bits going spare in due course.
