| Closed Circuit Divers Aus Current Rebreather/s: | CCR Travel Case What seems to be the best value hard case for taking your CCR on an airline. Light weight, strong and big enough to pack it away without too much wasted space. I see there are a couple of professionally made units specifically for CCR's but are very expensive (Here in OZ) although I have to admit I like the idea of wheels and a retractable handle when you have to cart it around with you!! I guess there is no reason why you can't make and fit your own later. Regards. Lance |

Does not attract attention and you can pack alot into it. See the link below and at the end of the article the pics of an inspo with travel frame packed into the suitcase. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: CCR Travel Case For those who can not carry on their RBs... Here is what I am trying out... already used another suit case (semi-hard shell) worked okay, but was a bit heavy... This is a regular Samsonite "Hardside Spinner" (29in/ 74cm). With only the Mk15 (no tanks) total weight is 50lbs (~23Kg). plenty of room to spare for exposure protection suits/ other regs/ etc. 20lbs to spare before the really big up charge too! (here's a thought though... several airlines give extra weight allowance for golf clubs over other "sports equipment" i.e. scuba gear. The difference can be significant, like 100lbs (45.4Kg) vs 50lbs (23Kg). So I have been contemplating getting a hardshell gold bag for everything but the Rebreather...) pics of the samsonite, very non-descript/ not attention getting; closed on wheels, great height for rolling through the airport! CCRtravelCase_closed.jpg open, plenty of room for other stuffs! CCRtravelCase_open.jpg my 2 cents... hoppyinca |

Has anyone done this before ? Putting non-golf equipment in a golf case for travel ?I wonder if the airline will actually open the case to verify. Then we would have to pay the excess baggage if there are no golf clubs inside...

It is my understanding that once through the check in process, the actual airline has nothing to do with the baggage, it goes into the not so capable hands of the not so all knowing TSA (in the US at least...).So... if it looks like golf clubs, must be golf clubs... if x-rayed and appears not to be golf clubs, open it up and take a look; TSA God,"oh dive gear... weird that it's in a golf bag... oh, let me zip this back up it's break time!" at least that is my thinking... I would never even tell the baggage counter person that it is golf clubs, just show the bag, they tag it (assuming it is golf equipment) and off we go! I am normally not a fan of playing on the ignorance or arrogance of others, but these fees for dive equipment are ridiculous, especially when taking into account the expense of plane tickets and horrid service of most airlines these days... okay, rant done... it was only a thought any way... hoppyinca |

Many of us have talked the same thing in the past, but no one had the "cajonas" to actually try it. Since you have rather large "round spheres", I volunteer you to try and report back... ![]()

Don't you need to practise your putting at 50m. Just add a putter to the case. Its an exhausting sport having to do 18 holes so you need a O2 boost from the CCR.![]() |
