Anyone seen this happen before???

Prediving the Meg tonight to head out to dive Lake Mead early in the am. Got to Meg checklist point where I turned on dil and O2 bottles to record pressure. No more than 10 seconds after turning on valves I heard a loud boom....sounded liked a high pressure hose leak???

Turned off dil and O2 and looked around...the side of the low pressure inflator valve had completely blown off. Male fitting was still in LP hose. This is a new Dive Rite Classic wing with about 10 dives on it. I was tring it out to see if I liked the larger wing over the Tec Wing.

I had not seen any signs of damage to the vlave or observed any leaks from this wing on my last dive.....

Any thoughts???

Broke parts on the way to Dive Rite Monday.

I once saw a halcyon wing launch the inflator button under similar circumstances.
Good thing it didn't happen under water eh?

You might want to check the IP on your reg.

Re: Anyone seen this happen before???

Problem solved...bad first stage IP leak. No OPV on first stage. I killed two Diverite LP inflators

Innerspace fits them on megs when they sell a complete unit. Often people buy stripped units and fit their own 1st stages. It seems this should be emphasized more in training of the importace of the 1st stage opv.

Re: Anyone seen this happen before???

I had the same thing happen on my Diverite Rec wing, I was using a Zeagle Envoy first stage with an overpressure valve installed. I cracked open the dil checked the gauge and POW! The inflator was in pieces. I popped an IP gauge on and it was a bit high but not creeping. The IP is set at about 135psi, the OVP is set to crack about 150psi.

That was about 10 dives ago and since then I have not had any other issues with this reg or the new inflator.

I assumed that I had cracked the inflator at some point and it finally failed.
