Anyway glad to hear you came out of it unharmed.
Hi,

the dolphin dsv also make it impossible to test the mouthpiece blowing it, nevertheless a visual test wouls be ok.

I noticed 2 points

first is that it is nice to stay at shalow depth a couple of minutes before going deeper cause if the water must get into the loop it is better to face it at shalow depth

secondly it is amazing how I tend to minimize things and say to myself, well ok it is not important...go on...

now every time i say that to myself I abort the dive ((((-: my worst enemy is not m ccr , it me !!!

regards

jean mi

Re: checking mouth piece integrity

I know of someone that lost thier mouthpiece at 90m in a cave!! Calm quick thinking saved the day.

I had a very small leak that let in a substantial amount of water over a 2.5 hour dive that ended up in a caustic cocktail sitting in the bottom of my can

Testimony to the megs water trap, none of this ended up inside me!! (although I did have tingly lips)

the sludge that was sat in the bottom of the can has stripped off the anodised lining, and is now a constant reminder to check the integrity of the mouthpiece!!!

Seems to be a particular problem with the jax / seacure type mouth pieces in that they can leak / come off as the seal around them is hard to get as the material is so stiff.

hahah I know someone whos M15.5 dsv broke in half (the bit that the mouthbite cable ties to came away from rest of dsv) I wasnt able to breathe from the loop at all. I was quite surprised when it happened. With the mouthbite and part of the dsv still clenched in my mouth I just remember looking at the rest of dsv with a hole that I wasnt ever going to be able to seal my lips around thinking - this isnt good! Luckily it only happened whilst practicing drills in a headpool.

Note to MK15 series users - check the dsv integrity too! KevinDs has also been repaired in this area I note.

Funny, this exact same thing happened to me last weekend. around a 2.5 hour dive, the seacure mouth piece and some anodizing missing on the bottom of the can and a bit of a bitter taste on my lips... I didn't attribute this to the mouth piece not being secure on the DSV but thought it was my lips not secure on the mouth piece. I will have to have a look at this now...

On the normal DSV its v easy to check by pos/neg with your finger over the blow hole. Its much harder with the BOV, because you cannot pos test the mouthpiece (you just end up breathing out thro the 2nd stage). You can get an idea however by wetting the mouthpiece and then testing - you'll gegt bubbles where the mouthpiece meets the plastic.
