Apeks drysuit DF

The older of my drysuit direct feed hoses is leaking at the connector. It is circa 1992 so it is hardly surprising. It's a standard Apeks one which some people on here call a CEJN one (I think), everyone seems to have different names for these fittings depending on who/when/where they trained.

On the hose end is a hex nut and on the open end there is a slot. I assumed that it would be a simple matter of unscrewing it using a spanner to hold the hex while turning the slot with a suitable tool. If so then it is very tight.

Is there a trick to opening them ?
