![]() ![]() ![]() | How many of you dive OC ... ... now that you've been converted? Under what circumstances do you go to OC SCUBA over CCR? And for those who rarely go OC now, did you sell most of your OC gear? Thanks, Paul |

With that said, I do still have my full oc kit with doubles, reg's, stages, harness, and the like. saludos Matt |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: How many of you dive OC ... I dive quite a bit of OC, mostly because I teach a lot of tech OC classes, and I also believe the students should see me in OC gear while teaching an OC class. Kind of difficult to demonstrate valve shut downs and such while wearing CCR. I also use OC in locals that don't support CCR or when the additional hassle with CCR isn't warranted. That said, if I have my choice, I will usually opt for CCR, especially if going deep.

Couple of weeks ago I had my first oc cave course for a while ..... I think I have been diving ccr for over a year or so now steady, teaching and fun diving ... well .... the missus dives went oc with single tanks ... nice ... Anywaz ... so when teaching the oc cave course I was thinking for a while where that noise came from ..... and had to realize that my buoyancy on oc was a twat better then ccr .... sniffffff .... saludos Matt |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: How many of you dive OC ... I'm in a hurry to build up hours on my unit to qualify for taking Mod 3, because it is dull being confined to the shallows, unable to dive mix. I dived on a single tank the other weekend though, when I ran out of O2 and was on an island with no resupply. It was a horrible experience: I hate using other people's kit. The vest leaked like a sieve, so I had to take the whole thing off and repair it underwater. And the shop had the cheek to charge me $40 for the pleasure of borrowing their shoddy kit. I should have sat the damn dive out! I suppose there is an argument for occasionally diving OC to keep your credentials current, but I'd rather spend the time diving my 'breather - and with a family to entertain, diving time is a scarcer than rocking horse poop. As for selling my OC kit, a surprising amount of it I still use. My Diverite Transpac bolts straight onto my Meg. It was comforting to have such a key part still with me when I made the switch to CCR: some of it is covered with counterlung now, but I know that even in a total siltout my fingers know exactly where everything is - the Z-knife, the shears, the line, the lights. My Travel Wing didn't get that much use on OC, because I dived doubles almost all the time, even when it wasn't strictly necessary. I was surprised that there is ample lift on the wing for my Meg. Deco regs are useful for bailout, but my Poseidon Jetstreams really don't deserve that kind of treatment. I doubt the resale value would be that high and I'd rather have them around just in case: we've been through a lot together and have a lot of shared memories. The same goes for my Superwings: I wouldn't need to use them much to make them worth more than the chump change I would get selling them on e-Bay. The upshot is: if you have good tech diving kit that you have spent lots of time modifying, you are not going to get enough for it to feel good about selling it. If it's single tank stuff in dayglo pink then you may want to sell it annonymously online before your mates find out - just don't expect what you get paid for it to offset much of the cost of a 'breather. Rebreather diving is expensive, but I look at it this way: I have a wife - she costs far more and I get a damn sight less use out of her. Last edited by Abbo : 20th June 2007 at 06:44. |

| Apprentice Meg Pilot Current Rebreather/s: | Re: How many of you dive OC ... When I was travelling overseas in April I did a couple dives so I went OC rather than carry my whole rig around with me. It'll be nice when the market gets a little more saturated and I can just get away with carrying around my electronics at most (I can't imagine thats more than a few years away apart from the remotest locations). Locally I occasionally dive with a small university club that is still scared of the whole rebreather thing so for now I only go OC off their boat. I also do teaching on OC (got to justify all those CCR-related equipment and training costs to the taxman somehow) since I'm not a Rebreather instructor and I don't really fancy doing OW training with a bunch of newbies while I'm on the loop and should be watching them not my PPO2. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: How many of you dive OC ... So when you guys go OC after being on CCR what are the largest adjustments you have to make. I'm very comfortable in my OC rigs and I wonder how much of that will be lost if I dive CCR mostly. Also, do you guys maintain your RMV rates or does it increase once on CCR since you don't have to worry about it so much? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: How many of you dive OC ... "OC is for bailout and what was RMV again?" those would have been the ideal answer. However when I went to Egypt for a family vacation I didn't bother as I knew I'd make 4 dives at best anyways.... And for me the RMV has dramatically deteriorated wich isn't a good thing when going to 30m on a single 12l ![]()
