The only OC kit that I sold since going CCR were my twin 20's so no loss .I still dive OC a fair bit for cave diving. Probably most of the stuff round here isn't really suited to a rebreather (there are a few) so I go OC. As a few have said, it is noticeably less hassle but not as nice (cold, noisy, tiring). My own rule tends to be does a rebreather mean carrying more kit than OC for a given dive (sometimes it comes down to is the consumables cost more than OC fills). If so then I go OC but I'm realistic and like a few others I'm realistic about it, I'm not going to re-rig kit for one dive in a week of diving. I tend to do long, shallow caves OC as the bailout + Rebreather is more than the OC requirement. Cheers, Stuart

HMMMM "selfish pig", my ex wife seemed to have used that same phrase quite a bit! Dale ![]() As a newly certified CCR guy I use it whenever practical. For me it means on any dive up to 130'. For now the deeper (150' - 200') dives will be on OC until I get a bunch of hours on my unit. Many instructors will tell you to try not to switch back and forth in the beginning as you are unlearning a lot of OC habits and relearning new CCR ones, so why confuse the issue. I think it's a valid point, but I don't want to give up the deeper stuff for a season, and I don't feel ready to take the unit that deep. I will tell you that carrying the rebreather is a lot easier than lugging two sets of 100's or 120's on and off the boats. ![]() Richie |

![]() | Rebreather Quote of the Day! Here is some green for you. Rebreather diving is expensive, but I look at it this way: I have a wife - she costs far more and I get a damn sight less use out of her.[/quote] |

| Custom Title Allowed! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: How many of you dive OC ... I sold my twinset and wing, I kept my harness and my jetstreams as I wanted reliable bail out regs. As for the rest of it I kept all my stages for obvious reasons. When teachig OC, standards dictate that I wear OC I find this beneficial at sports diver levels but at the tech level, I believe it can be taught easily on the ccr provided you carry enough bailout. My preference is to stay ccr, unless i'm in the pool, in which case its always oc. |

On a recent trip to Queensland the hassle in organising a CCR dive meant it was much better to just rent a bunch of OC kit for a series of 20m dives on the Barrier reef. That said when I do dive OC these days I tend to enjoy it a lot more (its usually single tank sunny diving).....soooo relaxing!
