Cubic Feet or Litre?

can anyone give us the measurements?

i know that in Europe people tend to measure tanks by reffering to them in 3L, 5L or 10, 12, etc etc, where in the States they use cubic feet?

i am after some 3L tanks, preferably aluminiun, but with flat bottom. what is that in Cubic? can anyone suggest a brand? i have a meg if that helps.

Cheers

Re: Cubic Feet or Litre?

A 3L tank is something like a 19cu.ft LP.
I think there is a LP19 (maybe LP20) from faber (3.1 liters), but I think it has a round bottom.

An aluminum 19cu.ft at 3000 psi is something like 2.6 liters, it has a square bottom.

Remember that in the metric system tanks are named after their internal volume (at 1 atm), in the US they are named after their total volume at the rated pressure.

Re: Cubic Feet or Litre?

You should be able to find something on the Luxfer site

Luxfer: SCUBA Cylinders: Specifications

Re: Cubic Feet or Litre?

the difference between Europe and the us in tank measurements. The eu measures the tank empty volume. that is where we get the two or three liter stuff from. in the us we measure a tank capacity at rated pressure ie 19 cf.

Re: Cubic Feet or Litre?

Off the top, multiply your L by rated tank pressure (207(bar) for most Luxfers), then divide by 28.3 (L/cuft).

Your looking for 19's. I have these and 13's. I have grown to prefer the use of 13's (for single dive days).

Re: Cubic Feet or Litre?

Luxfer do a flat bottomed 3litre ally but it is quite long, not as long as a Faber 3 but certainly a bit longer than Heiser 3's which KISS divers use.

Cheers,

Stuart

i already got some 3 L faber, which they have a round bottom, and also have some 3L aluminium with flat bottom alloy - catalina cylinders, but they are thicker in size makin my unit bigger which sort of gives me a harder time passing through tide places, ie, wrecks or caves.

Got any links to the ones you are mentioning? Also, do you think having flat bottom gives you any drag? thinking about scootering as well...

The ones I have are UK spec Luxfers, not sure how they compare to Catalinas. If you look on the Luxfer website there is a table of key dimensions.

Cheers,

Stuart
