oxygen pressure gauge

Hi all,

Two week ago, my oxygen reg that feeds my hydrogom valve started leaking underwater after the bubble check....
a year ago I had got rid of my oxygen pressure gauge to simplfy my configuration....I had only left a small pressure gauge impossible to read underwater (the tiny ones).
back to surface my buddy noticed the leak and checked the pressure (nearly 0).
last week end I had installed my gauge and this time the oxygen bottle I had used started leaking slightly, as I had the pressure gauge this tim I dived in spite of the leak beeing able to monitor my pressure and because it was a little dive with a huge nitrox bail out tank... I could notice the pressure oxygen gauge was necessary....
how many people have in watter visible pressure gauge ?

regards

jean mi

Re: oxygen pressure gauge

Too me a guage to monitor you O2 available seams like an acceptable failure point.

Re: Pressure gauges

I know this has been discussed in other threads previously... but really ends up being valid for rebreathers where gas volumes are small and extremely precious.

I'm still diving SCR but last weekend I aborted my second dive as I popped the O-ring out of the Draeger Pressure Gauge. I must of knocked it loose when I took the rig off after the first dive... it was a real bummer... I fixed it immediately once back on shore but we were shore diving on a wreck quite a ways off the beach... so we ended up calling it a day.

I'm personally leaning more and more towards the Wireless Pressure transmitters (less to get caught on and no hose to fail). I currently have 1 for my VT PRO but I think 3 for O2 / Dil / Bail Out all tied into a VT3 is potentially a great set-up and really stream lines the rig.

I just don't like not knowing what the pressure is in all my tanks.

a gauge is a potential failure point, orings etc

pros and cons add upto its a risk worth taking

Hi rayan,

what is sure is that pressure gauge all end up leaking ...on the other hand the pressure gauge gives you the info you need and one will notice the leak both .
as for wireless gauges , do they exist for rebreather diving ?

Re: oxygen pressure gauge

I've been flipflopping, I started with a spg, than took it off for a button gauge, which I'd check before and after dives. Now after a long, shallow dive, where I used lots of O2, I'm going to go back to using a regular SPG. In addition to being able to monitor O2 during the dive, I can use it to check the flowrate through my kiss valve.

Jean Mi,

I heard someone is coming out with one capable of monitoring three gases. I forget who it was. At present the only unit out ther had a problem in how or what gases it checked and when..

Maybe someone else will remeber the specifics.

Re: oxygen pressure gauge

I think the new Aladin can monitor up to 10 wireless transmitters.

i wouldn't go without a gauge any more than I would on OC or a means of pO2 monitoring.
