| Ladies bring a plate ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Flooded Scrubber Mike has a thread running about flooding and then restarting scrubbers and it got me wondering; how often has this occurred to people? I have been diving CCRs for almost 15 years and I have not had a loop flood. Sure the odd cup full of water but never a flood. How common is this happening?

| Customise Me! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Flooded Scrubber I have flooded my CCR-Dolphin a couple of times. Once on the surface and once during a dive. However I must confess that both times could have easily been prevented by paying more attention to bubble checks and negative pressure test... Morten |

I've managed to fill a lung once or twice but been lucky enough not to sponge the sorb. I'll vote as such. I would expect that the majority would vote in a similar fashion but this would be mostly due to the design of some rebreathers with water traps or OTS lungs. Those with neither would carry more risk.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Flooded Scrubber In a couple of years of Rebreather diving I floaded my loop only one time, at surface cause I had dropped the mouth piece. Apart from that I saw one cannister floading in my group , the dolphin breathing bag had not been properly "clicked" to the canister and went out causing a big dil leak and after a canniser floading. the rebreather had sucessfully passed the pressure test because the port was intaken far enough to be on the cannister o ring, but not deeply enough to click and secure the p-port on the cannister In my opinion it is important before to get down deep to stay a good couple of minutes at the anchor line around 6 meter to check, bubble check and see if everything is okay... regards jean mi

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Flooded Scrubber It's only happened once (so far). When we were using the original Jetsam displays, which had the leads running through a length of tubing to keep the displays at ambient pressure, one of these tubes had developed a crack (I'd used it for years, and it was used when I got it). All positive and negative checks passed pre-dive, but once I was wearing the displays, the lead and tube were pulled far enough to open the crack. This resulted in a slow flood, which I didn't notice until several minutes into the second dive of the day. Until we changed to the Sub Sea Systems displays, I made it a point to wiggle the display leads while doing pre-dive checks after that. cheers... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Flooded Scrubber I flooded my KISS on my third dive ever with it, which is a testament to slow progression (planning a 3.5hr dive to 60m'ish in retrospect wasn't a good idea on the first cave dive with the unit ).Bailed off the loop in the deep section of the cave after the WOB became unpleasant. Once I got shallower I went back on the loop and managed to complete the full deco. The only problem was loss of loop volume so I ate through diluent and then O2 when I hit 6m. Diving on homebuilds for a few years meant floods was a regular occurence, so I've had a lot but never a cocktail. I stupidly licked my finger after filling my scrubber once and puked solidly for 5min so I have a great deal of respect for anyone who got through a cocktail underwater. Cheers, Stuart
