Price?

Since i have no idea about price and the seller is asking for a bid price, how much does an upgraded Halcyon pvr basc unit cost?

Today i dive a Dräger SCR unit and is searching for someone to help me learn more abot the Halcyon unit, I have found no education program for this specific unit and is a bit anxious about learning by experience

Open for suggestions and opinions,

What upgrade does this PVR-BASC unit have ?

There were 2 different versions of PVR-BASC style units:
  1. The original unit with depth-compensated valve
  2. The less-expensive Halcyon-2 unit without the valve
The original retail cost of the first version was around $8000-9000, and probably was a couple of thousands less for the Halcyon-2.

However, keep in mind that Halcyon prices are always over-inflated!

About 1-2 years after it was introduced, people were dumping the first version for $5000-6000, and the second for $3000 range. Another 2 years and Halcyon were offerring to take them back as trade-in (for Rebreather-80) for $1500-2000 for the first version.

There were probably around 30-40 units made, and AFAIK, no one is diving it anymore. Halcyon stopped making it years ago, and only a handful of IANTD instructors teach the unit.

Personally, they are POS (i.e. too big, too cumbersome, not enough gas saving unless diving really deep, etc) and not worth anything IMHO. There are units out there that I wouldn't take for free, and these fall in that category.

Just my personal opinion...

Just becareful if you actually succeed in buying the unit since obtaining instructions will be difficult.

And PSCR diving could be very dangerous if using the wrong gas and/or procedure since there is no sensor to monitor your PO2, there were people already died diving its clone units from the aforementioned issues.

Dive safe!

Re: Price?

I think i know which unit you are refering too, i will not point someone out, but i was offered that unit for 7000kronor about 1½ year ago or so. I would never pay 18000kronor for it...
It might be a different unit you are talking about.

I'd seriously consider a Sport Kiss. I have been very impressed with it. I can set it up and break it down in less than 20 minutes. Unless you are planning dives past 200 feet, I'd highly recommend it.

Aloha,
Charlie
