It is wide than a round shape scrubber unit, but thinner. Just calculate the cross-section area. For those who use split fins, have you used them in VERY strong current with a lot of gear on ? I just do not think they are strong enough to get you going in the right direction. I use Turtle fins at the moment because they are better fro trim but the Apollo Bio fins (Split fins) i have are definitely the most powerful fin i have ever owned. Seac Sub (Dont know but they were planks) Mares Avanti Quatro (Powerful brilliant but gave me cramp) Apollo Bio Fins (Powerful comfortable but floaty feet were a PITA) Turtle fins (Jet fins with big foot pockets. Not powerful but comfortable and good enough for wreck diving. When i go blue water wet suit i take the Bio fins so i can keep up with the group God i hate fast finning dive guides.ATB Mark Chase

I can't even remember the name now as the labels fell off years ago. I have a pair of Force Fins but I haven't adjusted to them yet. I also have a huge pair of Cressi Gara 1000s. I don't use them on the rebreather though. They put 100m/min ascent rates on the computers. ![]()

Mares Avanti Quattro - a bit too soft in strong currents, compared to the long, stiff fins (brand???) I used to have before I switched to a dry suit. Less cramps on long dives with the Mares. My advice: Try before you buy! And don't try fins out in a pool.

This is the only other type of fins that I use other than JetFins and OMS copies, but they are strictly for rec diving.A long time ago, I had to swim very hard for almost 10 minutes to make the 2-ft distance to the anchor line in strong current with loads of gear on (i.e. I slipt off accidentally while ascending), they just don't deliver the power but comfortable to dive in non-current environment. Bought a second-hand set of the $500-pair of Force Fins, found that the kicking motion has to be changed completely to use them - traded them off after 1 dive. Plus they are very difficult (if not close to impossible) to frog kick properly. Just personal experience...

Plus they are very difficult (if not close to impossible) to frog kick properly. It's interesting that people say that, as it's not my experience. It's usually heard from people who've never even tried them, but I could have guaranteed that you've owned a pair ;-) Just personal experience... This is one of those products that seems to get only one of two responses - love or hate. There's no in between. Agree that the kicking motion has to be changed, though not completely. The first couple of dives, it felt as if I had left my fins behind on the boat. After that, I just loved them. Frog kicking is my normal mode of propulsion with them, so that works fine for me. I suspect that one dive is not enough to make the transition, and that frog-kicking is a higher order skill than normal finning, so will take even longer.
