Breathing Heavy

Just an innocent question, I had a quick 15 minute go on a Submatix unit and found myself breathing like a race horse having run a derby almost hyperventelating. Is that normal for a first time go on a rebreather?.

I found i missed the reassuring sound of being on open circuit and the rush of air when i breathed in.

Just interested in thoughts really i was a little light on the quick dive which probably did not help the situation

Re: Breathing Heavy

Hi Scubasteve67 and welcome to the board.

In regard to your query, could you first tell me if you were using the unit underwater or couch diving on the surface?

Cheers.

Your symtoms are typical CO2 breakthrough. Did you pack the scrubber, was it fresh or had the unit been used for a while already?
I would be very interested in knowing the state of your scrubber since this seems like a CO2 issue.

Re: Breathing Heavy

I was only 6m the scrubber was brand new and I breathed te unit for three or four minutes to warm the scrubber before getting in. It was only a quick go on the unit PPO2 was around .40 as I recall.

It was probably as someone said above me being a little nervous didnt help.

Thanks all for the replies I appreciate it
