how much lead weight?

hello guys,

i was wondering how much weight in general do divers carry with them in order to be effectively " cool" underwater.
i know that it deppends on many factors, but just a question in general. i seem to have the impression that for some reason i need a lot of weights, i.e i need something like 13KG just to be on the edge. i am 189cm height, 92kg weight. its just that i am having a bit of difficulty now, in order to spead the weight on my unit, as i dont like to have a belt.

Please do not think of me as someone who makes such a "dumb" question. i want to see if there are others who have the same problem as me. i need these kgs just to keep me underwater, which makes me having my dry suit relatively empty of air, which then leads to trouble moving around, and just to give you a small example of how hard this situation is getting, i seem to be affected even by the adding of the orifice to the lung. so each time i feel the orifice letting air in the lung i seem to be affected in moving upwords.

I would appreciate to hear comments from people who have the same problem or how they solved theirs.

Thanks in advance about this.

Spyros

Re: how much lead weight?

I was very surprised at how much weight I have to carry. seems to be a lot more than when I was training, but I've changed my drysuit (from a 5mm neo to 3mm neo but bigger suit) and added xerotherm arctics
I have a Meg, ss bp and I carry 9kg in fresh water - can just about get away with 8kg if i really wanted to, but more comfortable with 9kg. (This is more than I carried single tank in salt water with old drysuit!)

I guess with more practice I'll be able to start ditching some weight.. i should also be less lazy and try to get all the air out of my drysuit before kitting up - see what difference that makes.

I'm 5 foot 9, 60kg ish

I also dive a meg, with a crushed O3 suit... but and here's the big but. I have a Agir SS backplate, and I require no weight at all. In fact in fresh water I sink too fast!! Suits me though.. No weight belts

Re: how much lead weight?

Now I know everyone reading this will laugh at the amount of weight I need.

I am 6Ft and weigh 14.5 Stone (93kg).

On open circuit with twin steel 12L a trilaminate drysuit with a Weezle Extreme I need 15Kg in sea water and 12kg in fresh. It sounds a lot and is to be honest. I did my extended range diving and specifically asked them to look at my weighting but was told it's what I need!!

On the Yellow box I use 16Kg in salt, I know that this is too much and I am hoping to be able to loose a few Kg's but if I ditch 2Kg I end up getting cold because I can't put enough air in the suit.

I have 3kg in the top pouch, 2 x 3Kg on the Yellow box's waist band and a 7Kg weight harness!!!

I need a bl**dy lot of lead.

Any tips or advice would be great for me too please!!

Oh, I try to keep a minimum loop too!!!

John

Re: how much lead weight?

I don't think there is any easy way of saying it........... weighting is a physiological thing, you, me.......... we all need to stay in shape, physically and mentally. A persons bone structure may be heavier than another's and will need less weight than some else of the same weight, but if you weigh 90+Kg's and have got a tyre around your waist it's one thing, but when your 90+Kg's and your diving a 'Turtle shell' but your allso 'Sporting a Turtle shell' (yor ABS) it's a diffrent matter........ FAT floats, muscle matter sinks.
