Trimix...rebreathers...if only sooner...

I just got back from the dive shop picking up the bottles for my rebreather so I can do one of my last training dives this weekend and I just was amazed at the cost of my trimix fill. I mean how dare they. $9.99 for 17/40!!! OK so I didn't get charged the $4 hook up fee, but even if I did pay the $13.99 so what.

This compared to the $170 I just spent on gas costs for a OC dive to 230' last week. At this rate I'll have the unit paid off in no time. Why didn't I see the light sooner. Of course I still have many more hours to go before I start diving that deep, I should have done this years ago.

I know there is no real point to this, I just had to tell someone other than my OC dive buddies who are going to punch me in the face when I tell them the savings.

That's more than I pay for gas in one entire year diving trimix just about every week-end...

Hi
When I was making the decision to go CCR I added up the costs honestly and I estimated I could easily save £900-00 pound Sterling per year on gas bills
5 years later I have a free Inspiration and I am in profit.

It's nice to win sometimes.

Cheers
David

I basically did the same.

The real kicker for me is when you've filled several sets of doubles, stages, etc. for a deep live-aboard that gets blown out. Now what? Do I dump the gas because my next series of dives are only half as deep or do I dive a hypoxic mix on a shallow dive?

You don't have to dump the whole set since you could adjust them by partial dump and reblend. But that's beside the point...

Any news on the manifold ?

Yes, but if I have to dump 1/2 of a $120 fill out of 3 sets of doubles, that's still $180 of waste....

I haven't heard back yet, I'll prod again.

Would that be the meg manifold? If so I've got the drawing on my desk from our English friend, just trying to get out of the weeds at work so I can get on it.
