Mark,

Why is that not OK ?

OK I pay £125 for my gas I do a 150mile round trip drive then I pay £65 to the skipper of the boat and sit there for 4-5 hours waiting to reach the dive site. Then we jump in drop to 70m spent 5mins tyeing in the guide line and clipping off the strobes and getting out of the silt cloud at the bottom of the shot then 5ins out 5 mins back??????? You have to be kidding.

If i cant get 30mins preferably 45mins on the wreck on a 70m dive I dont want to be there. Its not cost effective.

If I do a 15min bottom time it is because something has gone wrong or its realy crappy / dangerous down there.

So when OC divers tell me about air topping their trimix and spreading the cost over two dives, I point out after a 70m dive on OC id be lucky to come up with 50 bar of back gas so an air top isnt going to help me much.

OK, got you now.

Your 15-min BT comment is for a certain depth range, and not an universal deep dive comment.

I was getting worried a bit since I only did 15 mins on our deep sub dive, so I feel relieved now...

Same as you, I have to drive 5-hour each week-end to/back from the dive site. And the most we ever dive is 30-min BT on the 72m wreck since my buddy is OC (and "DIR'ish") which means limited time.

You paid 18-grand for your MK15.5 ?

Damn, I didn't think inflation has gone up that much...
Pristine Unit from Colkan + Hammerhead electronics + extra lexan dome + extra scrubber canister + extra set of spheres = a crap load of $$$

Oh well, I figure I can either have kids, or a Mark 15.5. Kids are a pain in the ass.

Aloha,
Charlie

I hear you. It is too late for me, thus the reason why I am selling my units...

Thanks for the break-down, it makes sense now since I remember that:
  • Juergensen MK-15 was around US$10K
  • MK-16 C-section around US$3K.
Adding to the package:
  • HH probably around US$2K
  • 2 extra spheres around US$2K
  • misc U$1K
which is US$18K as you said...

Re: Trimix...rebreathers...if only sooner...

He is indeed expensive out here in the Middle of the Pacific(tm). I've been getting mine
from Air Liquide - much better price than AirGas - about $1.10 / cf. I get my ABO from
AirGas, though.

My old set of LP double 98s are now serving as a nice bank of 18/45 to fill my Rebreather cylinders

Are you getting your fills from Jo at Island Divers?

A 50 liter of HE was around 110€ last time.

Phi,

do you need a CCR buddy for longer bottom times. Just organise an IT contracting job for me and I dive with you every weekend.
