I wonder how long it's going to take me to pay off my Mk 15.5? Let's see...$18,000 divided by a difference of $100 per dive...WOW! It's only gonna take me 180 trimix dives! I'll have that done in a week ![]()

You know, that's not a bad idea if you have a booster pump. At the end of the dives pump the highest He mix out of what's left over from your buddies bottom mixes and keep it for the next dive. Hmmm... wonder if they'd notice...![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Trimix...rebreathers...if only sooner... Apparently the secret with OC diving gas is to become a DIR diver. when ever I tell a DIR diver a 70m dive cot me over £125 in gas they always retort with £30 fills of 16/65 and £10 fills of 02 and Nitrox 50???? Becoming a DIR diver they must give you the secret password to tell the blender chap and he knocks the price of the gas down by 75% Bit like when Homer Simpson became a lodge member and got the blipper to the empty roads during rush hour. Mind you its not ALLL the DIR divers fault. I was at DIVERS06 listening to CCR diver and instructor Jack Ingle giving a talk on deep diving. He said some divers will tell you diving CCR pays for its self but thats just rubbish? I wanted to stand up and point out i had reduced my annual gas bill from about £2500 down to £250 and my CCR had paid for its self in two years but how do you explain it to divers who think doing 15min bottom times on deep dives is OK and they only do a couple of dives below 50m a year. Since most of it comes from the US and the USSR. What does HE cost over there. I got a 300 cu ft cylinder of 99.997% for $75. But there is no doubt that Rebreather save a lot of gas.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Trimix...rebreathers...if only sooner... 300cf for only $75!! Out in HI "breathing grade" He is running at $1.60/cf. and climbing. The "industrial grade" (which it turns out is filled from the same tank at the gas supplier) is $1.10/cf. and since it is the same stuff as the "breathing grade" we are now blending with it. Since I work at the dive shop I get it at cost, which still turns out to be expensive. The price I pay to live on a small rock. |

What does HE cost over there. I got a 300 cu ft cylinder of 99.997% for $75. But there is no doubt that Rebreather save a lot of gas. FWIW we pay US$216 for a slightly bigger cylinder of 99.999% helium. And that's just the contents, excluding rental! Rental over here is about US$22 per cylinder per month, and that is if you fetch & carry it yourself. Count your blessings!!! (300 cuft equals 8500 liters of helium, and ours is 50 liters x 200 bar which is 10 000 liters of helium - if my math is correct!) rgds monty Last edited by montyg : 15th March 2007 at 06:07. Well the math is correct, but you only get 9100 liters helium in a 50Lx200 bar cylinder. (300 cuft equals 8500 liters of helium, and ours is 50 liters x 200 bar which is 10 000 liters of helium - if my math is correct!) rgds monty That is specified in the bill from the gas companies here in Denmark. We pay just about the same price for helium. But even with my huge anual savings on gas, when adding it all up. The rebreather has not paid for itself yet. Cost of repair and maintenence is too high to do that. |
