Servicing a YBOD

Folowing on form another thread...

What exactly sould be considered normal servicing for a YBOD and when / how long in between it being done.

I am replacing the cells on a 12monthly basis (unless i have a cell error) and replacing scrims and 0 rings as the need arises but i am curious to know what is considered normal servicing for this unit and how often it should be sent back to base at AP for a 'service' and what they do when they get it?

Is it necessary or can I do it my self (that was the plan)

Mark,

Since you are changing the cells (12 to 18 mos) and the scrims and o-rings, you are doing the needed work. Don't forget to get at the magnets for the switches and put the clear nail polish on them.

After that, except for servicing the ADV, and normal service on the regs, that's about it until something actually breaks.

Servicing a YBOD

I would be working on roughly the same principle but I would add:

Stripping and 02 cleaning the solonoid and filter.

Checking the interstage pressures.

Cleaning the DIN fittings and cylinder Valve threads.

Cleaning the low pressure connectors male/female.

Strip and clean/lube the mouthpiece assembly.

And giving it a nice big hug

Cheers

Barrie,

Good points all, especially if you have the IP gauge and tool. By all means don't forget the HUG.

Thanks and sorry for asking twice

I do all of the above (including the hug) so that’s cool. I did think it a bit odd when they moaned about the unit having no back to base service history Till reading that post I had no intention of ever sending my one back unless it was faulty.

SERVICING O RINGS

Just to say, a dental pick is fantastic for getting these out but I just use a watch maker screw driver. I only replace them if I am getting an unfixable neg test but when I do I clean the plastic and groove with lint free cloth and I use the smallest possible amount of silicone on the ring. Fit the rear one first.

That’s about it really. Only problem I found with 0 rings was when I was using too much silicone grease and they just collected every hair and bit of grit going. Now I mainly use spit.

Ian;
Thanks for the directions. But for some reason the pics/instructions are not available now on mole's site.
