New Sea Cure Hi Flow mouthpiece

Hi

I read some previous posts about mouthpieces, I saw that one person had modified a sea cure to improve the WOB. Has anybody tried the new Hi Flow mouthpiece, which appears to address this issue?

BTW I dive an classic inspo

Cheers
Eugene.

Re: New Sea Cure Hi Flow mouthpiece

I bought the new Sea Cure (to replace my older version of the Sea Cure). I just put it on. I haven't been in the water with it yet. However, I really don't see that big of a difference with it so far (just from breathing hard in open air). We'll see how it behaves in the water.

I know some PRISM divers who pop out the yellow piece then dip the end in boiling water before securing to DSV. It will mold to the DSV the same way it molds to your teeth when you bite down. I personally like the Apex/Aqua lung mouth piece.

That is how it is intended to be fitted. Everyone should do this.

Re: New Sea Cure Hi Flow mouthpiece

Just don't over heat it before fitting it on the DSV like I did, cause then it definitly won't fit even with tons of silicone.

Re: New Sea Cure Hi Flow mouthpiece

I spoke to the manufacturer at DEMA. So, the information below is my best recollection of the details I learned in our conversation.

The older version of the Sea Cure is the one that had the yellow inside. The newer version does not.

The older version was made of a softer variety of the material, and the yellow part inside was used to keep the part that attaches to the regulator from moving around due to the softness. The newer version is made of a harder material where it connects to the gas source. (I am not sure how much of the unit is the harder stuff. It might extend to a rib that runs around moldable part.) It does not need the yellow part due to the new version of the material.

The newer version has a larger orafice through which the gas will flow. This is the "high flow" feature.

Hope this helps.

Re: New Sea Cure Hi Flow mouthpiece

I fitted a Sea Cure to my Inspo. It does not "just fit on" you have to heat it ever so slightly and stretch it over the opening. If you heat it and stretch it too much it won't stay on. Make sure you get the zip-tie extra tight as the ridge that is intended to help keep the mouthpiece from sliding off is wider than most OC 2nd stages and it just doesn't quite fit.

But if you don't over stretch it by heating it too much and get it zipped down nice and snug mine has worked well for several dives. I don't notice any improvement in WOB over the stock MP, but it's so much more comfortable and I no longer slobber all over myself like a rabid dog during prebreathes trying to keep my mouthpiece in.
