So you want to miss out the whole beginner learning curve bit and go straight to the long, deep ones?

You might want to miss out the whole cave course entirely as this may slow you down even further.
I concur - obviously if you have unlimited gas reserves (to paraphrase Mark Chase) you can learn on the fly. I wouldn't bother with a line either.

To be serious though, I'd recommend Martin Robson any day - as a disclaimer I'd like to add that although he was present at my first CCR cave dive he was acting in a purely private capacity.

A group of us did the CCR cave class a little over a year ago through IANTD. Tom Mount and Martin Robson taught the course (I see Martin looking at this thread...)

The class was a FULL week in North Florida. It's a "zero to hero" class, meaning you go from no cave cert to full cave in the class. I was the least qualified person in the class, all the others had both oc and CCR trimix. I had OC trimix but had only mod 1 of CCR at the time (although I did have about 100 hours on my meg).

I highly recommend both Tom and Martin. Tom is still recovering from his surgery, so you may want to contact Martin for details. Martin just taught another class in Marianna/Luraville a month ago to a few other friends...

What ever happined to take take cavern/intro, dive for a while at that level to gain experiance, then move on to app & full cave?
The journey itself should be rewarding. Why be in a huge hurry? I have to wonder how many of the new cavers love the caves & how many are "T" shirt collectors.
End of rant, hunkering down for my beating.

I agree. Maybe it's time for a "resort" cave course. There's a good opening for PADI there.

we will do that in the UK
There's a good opening for Duncan. I seem to remember the phrase "I wasn't worried, I had my body recovery strap" being used when I never turned up at the end of Pwll-Y-Cwm

Good point. For some reason there is no intro CCR cave. The feeling is that CCRs make it too tempting for a diver to venture beyond their training limits. I think this is silly as a CCR diver has to do the whole program to get into the caves on a rebreather with prior experience. I took my intro on OC then had to do the whole course over right from cavern on CCR.

I guess you'll have to ask Tom about that. When I asked, he told me that he prefers the 'all-in-one-shot' class and designed the CCR class with that in mind.

As for being a non-cave-loving-t-shirt-collector, that is an inaccurate description in my case. I can't speak for others. While it is true that I took the cave class to improve my wreck diving, I quickly found cave diving to be fascinating. I did buy 1 t-shirt though.

t

Addited: Besides, who says the all-in-one class doesn't present a rewarding journey?

No joke - when I take trainees for their practical assessment, I often feign death and make them haul me out of the sump to the surface. Its not an easy job and a skill that I hope no-one needs for real.

Don't think you can get the S & P's off the web.
They are from and in the instructor manual and subject to change.

OK thanks. I recall they were posted at one time. I think every agency should make them public.
