Good God; trajic accident! At least it occured in a depth range where a relatively easy recovery was possible.

Ian

I've read many of your posts and have high regard for your views.

I've re-posted a video, that I did, on US NEDU deep saturation dive testing of the DIVEX SLS MK IV Bailout Backpack, in the Gallery Video section. You might find it interesting if you had not seen it begfore.

Dan

MGI Hats off to you guys if a 972 foot seawater bdy recovey dive is "relatively" easy. In Jays case it was another ADS that did the recovory.
You have got to be kidding on this Right? lol

I did first one in a harbor the guy had been down so long he had balls like a grapefruit. However I also did my fair stint as stand by for the diving bell on semi sub rigs. Watching tenders struggle with a 400 foot umbilical, thinking “don’t jump the standby” lol.
In March 1980 I was day shift supervisor on the saturation diving spread installation of the “Drillmaster” platform when its sister platform the “Alexander Kielland” turned over trapping about 100 or so inside when she sank. (The “Drillmaster” changed its name to Buchan Alpha” shortly after).

Just out of interest I got from our stores this morning three 400 foot umbilicals stacked to make just over the 972FSW length. Sadly our yard is not big enough to roll them down. Notice the improvement from duct taping the lines!! Just take a look, at the weight alone you can just about lift one, two no way. lol. Iain

The ADS fell into the sea and because of the missing arm flooded and sank to the pontoon ...

....Two standby dives were made before the diver was located and brought to the surface.
On a Semi submersible at drilling draft the top of the pontoons would be about 10 - 20m below sea level. My understanding is that the casualty ended up lying on top of the pontoon - and did not sink back to bottom

I was just having some fun with the gentlemen. Thats why I put "your kidding right? LOL Mind you knowing that lot over at Panama a 1000 foot suface jump would be nothing to them. I am old enougth to remember Boyett Finley and the Henderson Brothers, two Seal team 3 and a 3xvet. As a Brit diver I just used to drink tea, and read porn LOL. happy days!
