As mentioned, Great Idea Curt.
You guys that mentioned names, maybe you could pull together some facts and pictures that made you suggest these people and put together a rough draft article for Curt to review. From that Curt or whoever could decide if they are indeed worthy of the honor.

If it is about individuals who dedicated their lifes to underwater science, I would suggest Gregg Stanton. He never pushed his name into the forground, but if you read the "Thanks to .." notes of many great projects of the past 20 years, his name keeps popping up - for a reason. Many of the standards that apply to science diving have their roots in what Gregg developped.

Hey Curt,

I think a person who definitly earned it is STEVE BOGAERTS...
His ongoing explorations in the Yucatan and the Bahamas are just breathtaking as well as his sidemount and no mount adventures...

His is a TRUE explorer who spends a big deal of his free time and a lot of his money to push these caves...

I'd like to put in a vote for Hans Hass. not exactly a deep or advanced cave diver, but risked his life doing some pioneering environmental work with early an early O2 rebreather.

great idea, maybe worth to split people / sections. What are your references ? I know Kevin Gurr, what about Dr A. Adel in Sinai / Egypt who is for sure a name for a lot of us, Francisco ( ata Franco ) ( sience/ safari guide ) and others ? What is mandatory to be mentioned in your list ?
