Heather,
Any chances of you having mixed gas training dives taking place on the USS Oriskany? Not like that would be a selling point.

I think that from North Texas it is about 12hours drive!

YEAH! Andrew
Welll... I'm actually semi-retired (and considering not renewing my insurance this year)- but I imagine we could work something out (I'd have to dive nasty OC though.... ).

Heather,

Do you have any information on trips to the site once it's cleared for divers?

My recommendation would be Capt. Dave Mucci at Blue Water Adventures. His website is http://bluwateradventures.com. Capt. Dave's boat isn't real big (27' cat hull 6 pack) but it is fast, and he is a pleasure to dive with. He was involved in the survey for the sink site, and has some info on it on the website.

Closer than me then

ahhhh but you have HMS Campania a first world war aircraft carrier less than 12 hours away.
OK vis is bit iffy and and you are on the very edge of a very busy shipping channel but this wreck is of historic importace.

Baz-

I'm a lifelong resident of Pensacola. I'd be happy to help you put something together, put you in touch with hotels, boat info, etc. I also have a gas account with the local supplier and can give you a shipping point for sorb, etc. Let me know what kind of info you want.

Hey there Jim, long time, no hear.
Scooters from the surface to your hull entry point. Clip 'em off, swim the rest. Individual lights on the divers and spread them out.
Works well in the underground, should work well in the confines of that ship.
You should not have much to skew your vision, cause' there should not be any real particulate/silt in a newly sunken vessel. You might have stuff stirred up from the nooks and crannies from the sinking, but it should settle quickly. Save the high power lighting until you get in the huge areas, which I can imagine the engine room will be..................
I would take plenty of support divers to help ferry cameras, scooters, bottles and get that stuff back on the boat while you're decoing.
