And I thought they do that just for my amusement.
Lots of people compensate for lack of skill with brute force.

They were meant to empty your wallet. Be real! US$500+ for a pair of fins with whiskers on them...

One of the guys we dive with had them (before the Great Boat Bonfire), we always raced down to get to the bottom before him since he always "bicycled" a storm of crap off the bottom with his Farce-Fins.

Harold Gartner "eBay'ed" his pair so cheap (when he quit diving) that I had to buy and try how a $500 fins swim like. After one dive with 2 stages in a quarry, I gave them away.

Just one now...

I don't use scooters all the time since I only have 1 buddy with scooter here (2 now that I sold the SS), so most of the time, I have to swim...

Ain't swimming a b!tch.

The way I see it, fins are propulsion tools. No more, no less.
You use what you need and what works for you.

I wouldn't try to break down a door with a nunchaku either.

Oh, and I never tried the whiskers ... ... almost 1/2 a scooter.

And Farce-Fins are the same...

Anyone who swear by Farce-Fins has never dived with multiple stages in strong current.

Just a question of practice. I use Force Fin since 5 years, I dove them with multiple stages in strong current and it was as hard as with any other fin.
I usually dive mountain gorges where also a 5L tank it is too much for the hydrodinamic and always with a f*****g current. Never had a problem.

But I can say that I did try twice the Jet and they're too hard and heavy.
Propulsion is ok but how long for until you have problem to the calf of feets?
Of course there are many models of Force Fin the Pro and Original models are not really made for swimming with multi stages, the Excellerator are better.

CCR are also like the Nuntchaku...

Finally I think that everyone has his own preferred piece of diving gear. What is good for you not necessarily it is for everyone.

Nad

OK so far we have two replies saying "jet fins rock" But analitically speaking, why do they rock? I dive the scubapro splits in black monoprene which were the latest greatest in the industry. They tout a patented propeller technology, are made from a brand new almost bullet proof material and have great flatened heel straps which doesn't cut into the heel like the round springs do, and have supurb quick releases making doffing easy in rough seas before boarding the boat. They come in several different stiffnesses by color. Rodale's Scuba Lab testing gave them Testors Choice awards for comfort and thrust. A bit on the spendy side but worth it. Yet we put them aside for a tired old design lacking all of the aformentioned traits. I tried Jets in the caves of Florida recently and I was amazed at how much stiffer they were, lacked the propulsion I was used to and greatly increased my fatigue. The springs seemed to bare into my achilles tendons causing hot spots and by dive 4, I had to switch to different fins as I found myself gritting my teeth with every modified frog I kicked. Say the least I didn't feel the love. Yet more and more I see divers showing up on the charter boat I work on as a Tech. DM and there they are in hords...ratty old jet fins by the pile. Is it because Gentile and Chatterton use them? Ritchie Kohler? East Coast Wreck diver influence? Some kind of control or back finning issue? Do the Do'in it Right (Amway divers) crowd think they are the only fin to use....hense you are a "stroke" if you don't. If you like these fins....tell me why. Peer pressure is a reason so if thats it....that's cool. If you get more speed and power in a 9 knot current tell me. Frankly I think it's just a big fad perpetuated by the Nazi DIR types and a bunch of other followers trying to look like them just in case they have something. But here I go and I'll give it another try, one stroke VS the DIR retards. Hut Hut Hut DIR TARD HUT HUT.
If you are getting pain or feeling fatigue I would check my fin size and my fin technique, something is wrong here. As far as Rodale (or any mag) I take what they say with a grain of salt. Jet fins rock because of their buoyance characteristics, they allow a good balance for proper leg position for frog kicking. Try frog kicking in a cave with splits While splits are great for divers who cant seem to learn how to kick properly for most "Tec DM'S" they are inadequate. Being that you are a "Tec DM" I am surprised you wear splits Try towing some one with splits and
then tell me how great they are As far as your DIR, Stroke, & East Coast remarks. Well I guess your just another Tec DM Wannabe

I've spent some time in PNG and around and every time we ran into a glitch, it was as if an austrailian was near at hand to make conversation, buy us a beer and haul us in their rovers where ever we needed to go. They could speak Pidgeon and help us out where we were helpless without them. The only country to stand by our side in every war we ever had were the austrailians. I'm off to PNG very soon again on another adventure. I hope to see the austrailians again during that trip. You are all in first Class as far as I am concerned. Thanks, thank you all so much for your spirit and for being our friends. God Bless all of you- always Sincerely, Craig Miller U.S.A.
