They are excellent grilled over an open flame on a spit. Just add garlic and butter. Almost as good as barbecued manatee.

Mike, I heard the Komodo Dragon meat is not quite as tender as Manatee, but I have heard the deadly enzymes they have in their saliva add a rather tangy spice to their meat, which is why they're often prepared Jamaican jerked style!

Yummy!!

We were filming/photographing those Komodo lizies in Rinca three weeks ago. Lying on the sand to get some good shots, suddenly one crawled from out of the bushes and passes behind us at a oh two feet or so.

I wouldn't call them tame, those are wild animals, but they are far from ferocious human killers.

Re: news article - Komodo dragon

I particularly liked the opening part “Scuba divers swept away in strong currents survived 12 hours in shark-infested waters”

As anyone who has been anywhere in Indonesian waters knows there isn’t very many sharks left – thanks to the Orient’s taste for shark fin soup.

Of course after is was all said and done, nobody got bit by anything, except by sand fleas and mosquitoes. But never sounds sexy to media “five divers endure 12 hours of hypothermia only to be assaulted by biting insects while they worry about a 8 to 10 foot lizard.
