![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Mcafee Problems Hopefully you guys don't fall for the slick advertising on EVERY web site? Yeah, Comodo AV has very cool features, but does it do the job of detecting most malware? Computer security engineering is what paid for my Mk 15.5 and boat, so I will proffer this. I use Comodo's SSL certificates, but I would not trust any of my own computers to Comodo Antivirus anytime soon. Comodo Antivirus did absolutely miserably in the independent review that I found here. Now, Comodo AV is a new product and I don't doubt that it will get better. They now have 2.0 Beta. Plus, Comodo's lead developer, Kevin McAleavey is well known in the anti-malware field for the BOClean program that he developed. Remember BackOrifice? Here is the latest independent AV comparisons of established AV products from AV Comparatives. Hate the bunch of crap that comes with McAfee, Norton and other home editions? Get the enterprise/business versions which are MUCH better and are non-intrusive. Come on, you guys are diving CC rebreathers and can't afford the few $ a year to keep your identity safe? For free versions AVG is not too bad. That's running on my girlfriend's computer. ![]()

![]() ![]() | Re: Mcafee Problems I had a similar problem with McAfee after switching to their Internet Security Suite (free with my Comcast subscription). I did not have any problems accessing Rebreather World prior to the switch. I was just running their Anti-Virus program. I tried disabling everything I "thought" was the problem with negative results. I then removed McAfee in its entirety and was able to have full access to RBW. I then installed a different Internet Security Suite, BitDefender. Once again, I had problems accessing RBW. Because the new suite cost me a dew bucks, I was determined to solve the problem. In my case, I found that the problem is NOT the firewall as everyone I spoke to suggested. While turning things on and off, I found that my problem was with "Privacy Controls". Once I disabled the "privacy" portion of the suite, I was able to access RBW without incident. The same thing with McAfee - disable the "privacy" portion of the suite.

I could get into the site but "New Posts" didn't work. It would give me an error every time. Then I got rid of Mcaffee and went to freeware like Zone Alarm, and AVG anti-virus. No problems since. I then occassionally run one of the ad aware type programs. |

![]() | Re: Mcafee Problems All - I think we're all talking about the same problem.... Macafee add-on product called "Privacy". I spent hours on the phone with them trying to resolve last spring and due to the VERY limited knowledge of their Tech Support staff... was forced to a "bigger hammer" solution; De-install the product. Personally I suspect that product is looking for some sort of "handshake" that's it's not getting form Rebreather World, but the Macafee "tech support" folks were more interested in having me de-install and reinstall their products... and then went so far as to suggest I deinstall and re-install my OS [gack!!]. Serious waste of time. "Privacy" is broke. They don't want to fix/acknowlege it. Vote with your feet. Cheers....r ![]() Last edited by robbwitt : 21st September 2007 at 12:52. |

![]() | Re: Mcafee Problems For those of you who still want to use McAfee and use Rebreather World without taking out the privacy features you can download the Opera Explorer on this link Opera browser: Home page In my opinion It works beter than Internet explorer and it doesn't carry all the "Bugs" that you get with IE. I have McAfee in my computers ( free with Comcast ) and can't run Rebreather World on IE but works perfect in Opera. Just my two cents... ![]()

![]() ![]() | Re: Mcafee Problems NOD32 from Eset is a good AV-software and is worth checking out. F-Secure is also a good AV-software that I have used and can recommend. At work we have eTrust from CA but I can't say I like it. Spywares are easy to avoid, - don't install crap and stop using Internet Explorer ;-) // Blomman |
