Exclamation DANGER - Valves - more legislation

British divers thought this had gone away when the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) dismissed the new proposals as having no tangible benefit in terms of safety, sadly looks like the euro loonies have decided to 'Fix' this non existant problem

see the following link and pass on to all diving friends and colleagues

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SCUBA-valves/

Sadly only british divers (and ex-pats) can sign the petition

Re: DANGER - Valves - more legislation

signed.. what a stupid idea, i thought we had stopped this a couple of years back.
if any one is in dout about signing, this will mean you changing your first staiges or your din fittings and your tank valves let along all the fittings at fill staition.......why? because some twat in an office with no knolege of what he is doing and no concept of diving, needs to justify his job because if he couldn't come up with some idea he would be out of a job. the HSE ruled this out a coulple of years back because it would serve no purpous and not save any lifes as there hadnt been any problems.
if you look at the changes being proposed it causes more problems with safty than it could ever try and solve because you can fit the old dins in the new valves...it fits very badly and is not a safe fit in any way but some one will do it......with deadly reaslts.

Re: DANGER - Valves - more legislation

For those of us in other countries, what exactly is being proposed? Is there a link or somewhere we can view more information? You never know when these things will pop up in our region.

Good luck with your fight!

Re: DANGER - Valves - more legislation

It' s basically a dedicated M26 DIN fitting for use on all Nitrox tanks. It is fairly widely available in Europe, but means you have to have (even more) dedicated regs. Also, as with 300 Bar fitting, I don't think you can use an insert and A clamp.

It is to stop people mixing up normal tanks and clean nitrox ones.

I can't imagine the Oz government will be far behind once it becomes a norm in Europe
