For the time being, sales of the NATO pod are restricted to government and military. Any dealer that sells to the military hence can get the pod, even if they also sell to the public. But like other restricted sales they aren't supposed to sell them to that market and will more like than not obey by it. Why risk loosing the military sales for a few civilian customers.

There are a bunch of the BOV pods in circulation as initially they were sold to some private parties, so the number is rather low. They were also quite expensive, the mask retails in the $500 neighborhood, while the pod alone is around $800.

Best bet is to look for a second hand one.

Or choose a different mask/BOV combo.
Thanks a lot for the info. you seem rather informative on this, so, do you thing that is possible for you to find a pod for me, around those prices you are talking about?

another issue that i am thinking, i am wondering at how old will those pods you mentioned above are, will they work like new? in case one needs spare parts, how does he gets them?

sorry to bother you, just that i am curious. i have the mask now, never tried it on yet, waiting for some free time to do it, but my initial goal was to get the whole thing.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Supermask KM48?

Sorry, can't help you source a new NATO pod.

The pod itself isn't the problem from what I understand, rather it is the 2nd stage that restricts the sale. Hence 2nd stage parts might be hard to get. Visited Kirby-Morgan and tried to get some answers when I lived in CA, but they've been rather dodgy about the whole issue.

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with it anymore. Dräger has a FFM that fits my face, can take comms easily and is available in a rebreather version (the Panorama Nova R). As far as I know you can get a DSV from Innerspace that will fit the p-port on the mask. Ron Micjan member here at Rebreather World) dives that combo and seems to like it.

Personally, I would prefer a Divematics BOV, with hose connectors that match my Rebreather. Mates well with the Dräger Nova R and you can change back to a simple bitepiece if you want to dive without the FFM.

The Dräger (like most FFMs) has a considerably better field-of-vision than the M-48.

Thanks for the reply. very informative. well, two things to bear in mind. i've already got the m48 now. i know that the drager has some better vision field, but what if you need to bail out, or use some other gas?doesn't that force me to have my stage bail out on me? what if i want to pass it on to another diver for some reason? what do you do for yourself?

Once again, thanks
