| Swimmin' upstream Current Rebreather/s: | Caustic cocktail in a FFM My rebreather instructor (who shall remain anonymous) told me he would avoid a FFM configuration because having had a cocktail he "could not imagine taking it up the nose." The other argument against was that in his opinion, Hyperoxia and the resulting convulsion was far less likely than a cocktail anyway. This forum has an enormous amount of collective experience so I'm looking for opinions and maybe some anecdotal experiences. Aloha, Todd |

I bought the Kirby Morgan M-48 wich is separated between mask and breathing pod,so no worries about getting sorb up my nose... It takes less than a second to pop the pod off and hit the bailoutreg... The reason I bought it was that most fatal Rebreather accidents results from the diver passing out, losing DSV and drowning...this should be much less lightly with a FFM... The mask fits me perfect and the limited view people often talk about,I cant understand...I have exactly the same view as in my normal black mask... Cheers Rodge |

Aloha, Todd Any FFM for use with a Rebreather would have an internal (to the mask) mouthbite so I dont see why you would necessarily get it up your nose. Getting some cocktail up ones nose might be unpleasant - but I suspect far more survivable than an O2 hit (without a FFM) If you really think this is critical concern (I dont) then just get a KM48 FFM as the oral and nasal cavities are seperate anyway.

| Made in England. Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Caustic cocktail in a FFM As Mike said there is a mouthpiece inside any FFM used with a reb, to stop any water leakage entering the loop. And it's hyperoxia and hypoxia that was the driving factor in getting one for me, and if there was ever any need to ditch the mask in a hurry, it doesn't take long to pull it off.... ![]()

![]() | Re: Caustic cocktail in a FFM The M-48 will also allow you to come off the mouthpiece and provide a breathing cavity between diver and cocktail. That cavity also includes a manual purge valve that could be used as a flush. |
