Full Face Masks and Inspiration

Does anyone have any personal experience of using either the Kirby-Morgan Mk48 Super mask or the Apeks / Drager Panorama FFMs with the Inspiration?

Thanks

Re: Full Face Masks and Inspiration

I have not used it with the inspo but I did a test dive with the Super Mask on my KISS Dolphin yesterday. The dive was to 150' for 20 BT and the total dive time was :38. My overall impressions were not that great, the field of vision throught the mask was poor at best and I found it difficult to equalize my ears (had to use 2 hands). I also did not like the way the mouthpiece wanted to pull away from my mouth. This forced me to hold it tighter in my mouth and gave me some discomfort during the short dive. I will be looking for a different FFM in the future.

Re: Full Face Masks and Inspiration

I have a scubapro, and it doesn't pull on the mouth-piece though the field of vision is 'slightly' less than normal, especialy when looking down. Allso equalising isn't easy!!

Re: Full Face Masks and Inspiration

What type of scubapro FFM do you use? Was it easy to modify for the Inspiration?

Any other comments on FFM would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Full Face Masks and Inspiration

I agree with Rob on the SuperMask. While it is easy to adapt to CCR use, and allows for fairly easy bailout via the "pod" mouthpiece, I have found it to be a cumbersome piece of equipment. This is especially true on units with over-the-shoulder counterlungs because the mask prohibits your head from turning to the side. Communications work well with these, but I'd only use them where surface comms were essential. Field of vision also sucks. It feels like you are inside a submarine.

As far as the FFM goes with use on the Inspiration, it is very difficult. Closing the DSV is clumsy. It does work better with the KISS OC/DSV.

I'd rather duct-tape my mouthpiece to my face to prevent drowning in a CNS fit.

Aloha,
Charlie

Any chance we could have "Quote of the day" on the Home page? I nominate this for the first one

Hah! I appreciate your input!

BTW - What color duct-tape do you recommend?

I always use black...more stealthy. The barracudas also attack the silver.

try the drager panorama nova: great field of vision, mouthpiece can slide towards your mouth
don't know if there is an adaptor for inspi, I use it on my rEvo

only problem when connecting a 2° stage at the side, you must block the venting valve of that second stage, if not you constantly loose gas by that valve

but the mask is great :-)

paul
