Re: OTS Full Face Mask No it will not. I was reading through the other threads about the Guardian mask where Golem was working on it. Then Jakub posted this.OTS mask is not suitable for rebreathers. Wondering why you just say it is not suitable. I've been using an AGA mask, but am having problems now getting a good seal and was hoping the Guardian might prove better. I like the idea of an oronasal cup better than a bite piece like in the Panorama since I need to use comms. So why the complete turnaround on the Guardian? Ken

Re: OTS Full Face Mask Guardian currently comes only with oronasal setup. To dive it with CCR you would need a bite piece to eliminate the CO2 buildup. additionally the guardian uses gas flow during inhalation to prevent fogging, this would be eliminated with bite piece. also the fogging might be issue with oronasal and warm moist gas from CCR.

Re: OTS Full Face Mask Guardian currently comes only with oronasal setup. To dive it with CCR you would need a bite piece to eliminate the CO2 buildup. Respectfully, Jakub, these are the same issues facing the AGA mask that the Guardian was based on. But the AGA mask has been used successfully with CCR for years. It is a different approach than the Panorama/Nova mask you are more familiar with. The oronasal cup has been used without a bite piece with no issue about CO2 buildup. The fogging issue is resolved by redirecting the gas flow and plugging the small mushroom valves between the cup and the visor areas. This is all the exact same as for the AGA mask. On OC, the AGA never fogs, but on CCR you have to use defog. additionally the guardian uses gas flow during inhalation to prevent fogging, this would be eliminated with bite piece. also the fogging might be issue with oronasal and warm moist gas from CCR. The only difference I see between the Guardian and the AGA is in how the regulator mounts to the skirt. I know the Nova mask is sold with an oronasal cup only for OC use, and the rebreather version removes the cup and adds a bite piece. Different views by different people, and they are certainly welcome to restrict the sale of one version to use only with OC. But please refrain from blanket comments like "the OTS mask is not suitable for rebreathers" when the nearly-identical AGA mask has been in use for years without any incidents that I know of. In another thread (http://www.rebreatherworld.com/full-...face-mask.html) when the Guardian first came out and someone asked about it being adapted for use with the Golem BOV P-port, your initial response was "We are working with OTS to adapt the Golem BOV for it." This seems to be a far cry from your current response, even though the Guardian was always based on the AGA design with the oronasal cup. That's why I was looking for a more detailed response about why you thought it was not suitable. Ken

We used the Guardian FFM for Piranha 3D movie. We did some funky stuff to it to make it work with double hose regulators and CCR. Tracy Robinette made custom T-pieces for the hose connections and then we made a custom flow port to blow gas into the mask to keep it from fogging. WOB on the mask was not bad but then again we were only using them for short dives (roll, cut, roll, cut - change film) in shallow water. We used them because they were easy to put the light arrays in and outside the mask. If it was not for "Hollywood" we would have used another mask. But all in all we were pleased with the results. Pirhana 3D hits the theatres next friday. Cheers JDS
