dont do it!!! those guys are all using them as they were quite cheep for a while in the uk 199 quid for either cyclone or jetstreem. you cannot remove the front easily to clear any shit during the dive, and the servo on the end of the jets is a bugger if you bash it, they break easily. If you go for the Xtreems you would not like them to free flow,

If your dead set I have over a dozen sets and would be happy to swap you for your Apeks.

See ya soon

I've been using cyclones for years and have never at an issue with them.. I have had some minor problems with jetstreams but even at that they still breathe alot better than any apeks.. BTW my oldest jetstreams and cyclons (they were called odin and thors in the US at that time) are nearly 20 years old.. I say thats pretty durable.. and I can say I have really beat the Sh*t out of them.. For a while I switched all my stage regs to apeks becuase the parts were easy to get and easy to service in the field, but have mostly switched back to poseidons as they dont need service as often and don't get IP creep as easily.. Not a big problem if your on oc but really sucks if they are on stage bottles..

The only problem I have ever seen with debris on any reg is on the exhaust valve.. on an xtreme you just have to pop the exhaust cover off (I usually dive without the cover installed).. SO you dont even have to take the reg apart to clear it..

I love the xtreme regs.. breathe wonderfully and fairly easy to service/adjust (unlike ths shitty triton a few years ago).. on my Divematics BOV I have an xtreme and there is no way I would swap it out.. it breaths as good as any dedicated oc reg.. I tried it with both an APeks and an xtreme.. no comparison.. For a Bov I do put a gas cutoff on it mainly because of the way the loop usually sits on the surface.. Its off on the surface always.. not just to stop potential free flows but also to make sure I don't accidentally breath a hypoxic dil on the surface.. Turned on as soon as I get past 10m...

those dirty caves in the UK Mike likes to dive will for sure get your regs full of sh1t a bit more than just on the exhaust cover

I kind of like the xtreme's to and agreed the first stages are a great to service without any adjustment needed. But if they do free flow you will loose more gas than on an apeks.

Ive had them free flowing on many a dive, especially those fun times I have students training.

But its like anything its a personal thing some love em some hate em.

agreed..

I understand the spare parts thing.. the good thing about the poseidons is alot of times all they need is a cleanup, and swapping the o-rings for good measure... The parts that you have to get from poseion usually don't need changing that often... with the xtreme 1st stages, even a monkey can service them...

The one thing that I have seen on many different regs, is that the students forget to purge some gas from the regs after ascending from significant depth.. they forget that the ip is originally increased relative to ambient, and if the forget to purge some gas, the OPV or the reg can let go.. On the posedons its the OPV and the only way for sure to stop it is to shut the valve off (if it was on) then repressureize it..... The apeks regs are greater offenders here due to the increase of the ip by about .1bar over ambient per bar.. I have had OPVs go on apeks regs at depth just because of this alone... This was another reason switching away from apeks regs for deep dives (I wount give up OPVs, since I have seen what a ruptured hose can do)..

So, this is a thread about Poseidon regs? Good hijack.
