Will a FFM solve my "sniff" problem ?

On a lot of my dives I get this uncontrollable urge to "sniff" which is quite hard & painfull with a normal mask ! The only way I can think of to get round this is a FFM with a mouth piece that I could release to be able to "sniff" ,obviously this can not be the km48 as it still has a seperate oral to nasal section .
So does any body else have this "sniff" urge ? How do you deal with it ? will a FFM help & if so any recomendations ? Also how do people deal with Rib diving with a FFM ?

I dive an Inspiration Vision if it makes any difference .
TIA

Re: Will a FFM solve my "sniff" problem ?

Hi Colin,

I tend to get a bit congested with the 1/2 mask if there is a bit of water in the bottom of it. When diving with my Drager FFM I don't have this problem as bad although sometimes it's still there a little but no where near as bad.

The thing to watch out for, with the Drager in particular, there is an Apeks second stage reg plugged into the side of the mask and pressurises the airspace in it. It will also allow the "Mask" to free flow if not strapped on tightly enough or not seated properly. What this allows you to do is breathe in through the nose and if you exhale through the mouth you can add to the loop volume, or decrease it when vise versa.

It could be a problem if your not aware that you're adding to the loop or decreasing the loop and could cause you some issues with excessive gas consumption/loop PO2 dilution etc.

Regards,

Lance

Heard of this before, as a suggestion, blow your nose... sure its messy/you lose loop gas.... but it might clear things up

Cheers
